Root Beer and Licorice, Not for the Faint-Hearted

My father loved root beer and licorice. I grew up on both, because I would go to my dad's house every Sunday and partake of these delicacies with him (along with my brother). My dad even liked Sen-Sen, a very strong licorice mint (think Altoids without the licorice taste!) I drew the line at that, though. But I did think everybody loved root beer and licorice, and I was surprised later on in life to discover that that was not the case! So many people dislike the tastes of root beer and licorice, and it makes me wonder if you have to have particular tastebuds in order to enjoy the experience of eating and drinking them.
