My broken ankle check-up

Happy day!!!! I got the cast removed!!!! I now am in a walking boot and I am healing well. The x-rays showed that. I'm in the boot for about 6 weeks and then I go in for another checkup. Plus, I am going to have physical therapy.
I didn't tell the nurse and the doctor that I had been walking on the cast without the crutches. Not a lot but some. Anyhow the compound break is healing nicely and has knitted properly and smoothly. It will be nice being able to remove the walking boot in this heat, I'm surprised that I haven't grown mushrooms in the cast with the way my leg and ankle have been sweating. All I have to deal with is the huge amount of dry skin on the bottom of my foot, it's awe inspiring!!!

Happy is putting it mildly, I'm THRILLED!!! I can now take a shower instead of trying to clean myself and protect the cast. (No, garbage bags don't work. I've had casts before and they get wet from being protected by a garbage sack.)

Congratulations ! I hope you don't have any issues from walking on it early. Glad to hear you got it off.

@BearArtistLady ......I think I would be tempted too. Watch those babes.
Just know that if it doesn't heal right you could be more apt to break it again.

@BearArtistLady ........Hope you can get some rest. I don't do well at all if I don't get enough sleep.

The cats are eyeballing the walking boot like they might try to use it for a scratching post...I'd be tempted if I were a cat!
I was surprised when the doctor said that the x-rays showed it was healing nicely. I had been doing some walking on it earlier and really expected that I would be laid up a lot longer. I was thrilled when he told me that I could have the walking boot!

It's healing well which is all you can really ask for. That's the important thing I think.

It's great being able to walk around the house on the walking boot. I know it will be a while before I am able to comfortably walk without the boot or a crutch, but it's nice not hurting so badly when I try to walk and to walk without crutches.
I'm still surprised that I haven't found mushrooms growing where the cast was. Between the heat and sweat here in Atascadero California, and the darkness of the cast, there by rights should be mushrooms. I wouldn't mind as I do love mushrooms, especially fresh ones.

I was riding on my motorcycle and hit a hole in the road. The bike fell to the left, which is my weaker leg, and I went over. I heard the break and had to fight my way into the storage compartment to get my cell phone to call for help. What was odd is there was an accident about a mile from where I fell! It didn't take too long for the ambulance and sheriffs to show up. Ended up that I managed to break my ankle in 3 places, one was a compound break, but the doctor couldn't do anything with it because it was too swollen.

It feels better, and I can actually take it off so I can take a real shower, but it's still hot with the weather we're having in California.

@BearArtistLady My Mom used to live in a low income senior apartment. I remember those inspection times.

I wear the boot for two weeks and then just do the physical therapy for four weeks after I lose the boot. It was nice taking it off for an hour this afternoon. Now all I have to do is have the energy to clean the apartment for the inspection. The landlord does that once a year to make sure we don't damage the apartments. Fortunately, one of the people that watches the apartments offered to come help me get ready for inspection....my Mama didn't raise no fool, I accepted the offer!!! The inspection isn't until next month, but at least the apartment might be organized and clean.

Now all I have is two weeks in a walking boot. But that isn't all the time, I can take it off to shower and when I am going to sit with my leg up. If I go to town, I have to use my crutches but instead of holding the leg up I can walk on it. YIPPPEEEEE!!!
