Marco Polo Davao used to be the tallest structure in Davao City and the first international deluxe hotel in Mindanao.I used to pass by this famous and for the rich hotel on my way to my university. I remember craning my neck to see its full grandeur thinking if I would ever set foot in it. It was so impossibly expensive for my pocket. Then when the pandemic hit in 2020, the hotel management announced that they would cease its operation. It was a bit of a shock for many because even the mighty Marco Polo was defeated by the deadly Covid. How sad. But last week during the height of the annual city festival, Marco Polo lit up for everyone to see. It was so beautiful and I feel happy with the announcement that they would open their doors to everyone again. Yey!l
Photo is of the hotel with the heart shaped room lights.

I don't believe there is a hotel in my city. The "best" in the country? I would guess that would be some of the famous ones in New York City but am not positive of that...

@sol_cee Because I live in a small city. People go past us and stay in Springfield on one side of us or in Joplin on the other side of us. Those are both large cities with lots of hotels/motels.

@DaddyEvil makes sense. Hey, how do you pronounce Joplin?

That's pretty. Living in a tourist town, We have every brand name hotel and resort. My husband and I'd favorites are the Hampton Inn beachfront, and Homewood suites by Hilton. Both of which share the Hilton honors app so we get points for both.

Cute lights! Oh gosh, I don't know what would be considered "the best" hotel - there are way too many hotels. We've gone to nice ones (probably not famous or anything - just "nice") but maybe it's not "the best". We haven't gone to one in a long time - we haven't gone on vacation for almost 3 years now!

There are no good hotels in my county. Of the three that are here, all have had horrible reviews online for cleanliness, bedbugs, lack of service and such. When I have to stay at a hotel somewhere I choose a Best Western. They have always been clean and friendly for me. Otherwise I will look for the hotels nearby that have the best online reviews.

That is very lovely gesture.
There are many hotels around Angeles City and Pampanga. The old ones that I know of would be the hotel Stotsenberg which I think closed down because of competition.

Being that I live in a city with a major university, there are hundreds of hotels here, many of them fancy. But I have no idea which one would be considered the fanciest one.
That is great news to hear that the Marco Polo will be opening back up!

@sol_cee Yes, Disneyland has at least one hotel that I’m aware of. Disney World, which is near where I live, has over 30 hotels and resorts on the theme park property. Several of them are extremely fancy and way out of my price range! Lol

What a very nice picture! I'm glad your hotel opened up again and that it wasn't permanently closed by Covid! The only really fancy hotel we have is in Atlanta (Georgia, USA), the Ritz Hotel. I stayed in it one time with some friends (one of our friends won a free night's stay). It was a very beautiful room and unlike any of the other cheaper hotels I have stayed in.

Yeah, it's a chain, mostly in big cities. I've only been to the one in Atlanta, though, and only once.

Although it is regrettable that they had to shut down, I believe it would be challenging for them to continue operations without any visitors due to the epidemic. Without any revenue to pay their employees, they would struggle to actually run their business. But now that things are returning to normal, I'm delighted they decided to return.
