Hi guys,
Hope you all are doing good. I am doing fine too. Today is "National Sports Day" in India.
We all know that Sports play a very important role in everyone's life. It helps us to develop skills like Focus, Determination, Hardwork, Fitness etc.
National Sports Day is celebrated in India on 29th August as it's the birth anniversary of the Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand.
Dhyan Singh was the original name of this legend who was born on 29th August, 1905 in Allahabad city now known as "Prayagraj".
He was a legend when it comes to Hockey. His focus and determination was unmatchable.
Back in the day, his father use to play Hockey as was in British Army. Dhyan Chand didn't use to play Hockey. His favourite sport was Wrestling. He started playing hockey after he got enrolled in Army.
He was a simple nongifted person who started late but only through immense practice, he became the God of Hockey.
The way Dhyan Chand controlled his ball was no ordinary way. People couldn't believe their eyes when Dhyan Chand moved the ball with his stick. It was as if something magical was happening.
He was given the title of "Wizard" but he was only human who became wizard by his zeal and dedication towards the sport.
While everyone slept, he use to practice hockey in the moonlight at night thereby the term "Chand" associated after his name i.e Moon.
His focus was unbreakable. He practiced the same move again and again until it became natural to him.
In 2012, this day was established in India in memory of Dhyan Chand and to acknowledge his contributions in the field of Sports and to spread awareness about significance of Sports in every individual's life.
On his birth date, the President of India gives away the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award to deserving candidates in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
I could say sadly I didn't play much sport nor was inclined towards it. Let me know what sport do you play or played earlier. Have a good day! Take care!!
