Amos Miller of Millers Organic Farm in Pennsylvania is in deep doo doo. He has a buyers club of about 4000 members. He sells organic eggs, raw milk, grass-fed beef and cheese, and fresh produce TO HIS MEMBERS. The people that buy from him want their items pure and fresh, organic. They pay top dollar to get it shipped to them all over the country. All signed contracts stating they understand the meat is not processed in USDA-inspected plants, or treated with USDA-required chemical preservatives… because that’s how they want it, and the very reason they are willing to go to such great lengths to get it. His problems started in 2016, when two listeriosis illnesses that occured in 2014 were traced back to raw milk sold by Miller’s Organic Farm. Both infected people had to be hospitalized, and one died from the illness. A federal judge told Miller to cease and desist all meat sales, and sent armed U.S. marshals to search his property, farm store and freezers. They took an inventory of all his meat to make sure he doesn’t sell any or slaughter anymore animals. Last summer, the judge also ordered Miller to pay $250,000 for “contempt of court,” and said he will also have to pay the salaries of the USDA investigators assigned to his case, $50,000. Have you ever bought from your local farmer? Thoughts?

Good grief, chemical preservatives .... no wonder I can't eat beef anymore, I'm allergic to that crap. Oh well, chicken and fish it is along with dairy.

I keep wondering how much money it would take to build a green house here, it's way too arid to grown veggies without one here.

@rebelann we have a small one, the materials were about $300. I want a bigger one now. I think we could really benefit from it.

For several years we joined a club and paid dues to a local family. But, we were only getting fresh fruit and vegetables from them. They offered fresh meat but we didn't trust them for that so didn't ever buy any from them.

meat is a touchy situation, you can get really sick from it if it is not right.

@DaddyEvil we are good, One of my daughter's broke a bone in her knee cap. She'd been in a leg brace since January. It runs from the thigh to her shin. she can't do anything, including walking, only what has to be done. Also paypal has stopped sending out checks and I am reluctant to give them my bank info.

We don't often buy from farmers or off the roadside but mainly because it rarely seems convenient.

@dgobucks226 i pinch where I can, so bought the trash bags without draw stings since they were a little cheaper. Its the kind you just tie. So my son was getting ready to take out the trash, grabs the bag and says, "mom I can't tie it there's no sting!" so I taught him the ways of the old ones, from the days before draw strings it gave me a good laugh

I have not bought anything from my local farmer lately. I do not like to hear stories like this about a farmer.
