Pretty Pekin bantams

I have my nephew’s permission to show these two photos of his new Pekin bantams. Aren’t they just the cutest little chickens?
In some countries, the Pekin is called a ‘true’ bantam as it has no large fowl equivalent. However, other countries regard it as the bantam version of a Cochin.
A key characteristic of the Pekin is the forward tilt of the body so they always look as though they’re off-balance. They have a round shape and are elaborately feathered. The cocks often have longer feathers on the feet. They come in a number of colours and the rarer colours are in great demand. There are also frizzled Pekins.
As a rule, they are very docile and make good pets, especially the hens, although cocks are generally gentle in nature too. The main problem is keeping the foot feathering from becoming too soiled as this can lead to foot rot. You can see my nephew has sawdust on the floor. This would be changed whenever it gets too soiled and/or wet.

Did you do some extra fluffing before you took these photos? They look as if they could be hats or wigs.

@JudyEv They are ideal as pets but after seeing what happened to Gamma in his old age I have decided never more to have chickens as pets.

@allknowing I do understand but you could have a lot of pleasurable time with them. As it is you have no pleasure from anything much at all.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen these type of chickens before.

They wouldn't suit everyone as they don't tend to lay as many eggs as some other breeds.

They are very pretty. But sounds like extra work with the feathering.

I like these, in fact I thought of getting some of the types with feathery feet because they can't scratch so much so you can let them roam the garden without them scratching up all your prized flowers! I didn't know about the foot rot though.

He exhibits them, breeds from the best and sells them on to other fanciers. So they're not really kept for eggs or as pets. He does enjoy having them so I guess in that sense they are pets. And any eggs that he doesn't 'set' would be eaten. He hatches most of them in his incubators.

Look at those feathers! I like to see chickens like that at a county fair. Always fun to view.
