Blocking on social media for petty reasons

I really hate people who block someone in social media without any good reason.
2 boys used to flirt with me in whatsapp. Instead of blocking them, I politely asked them to carry on with the friendship because I was not interested in a relationship. They maintained the protocol from then onwards. I know this method might not work for everybody. But atleast you can try and if it fails, it's gonna be the last straw; you are free to block that person then.
Random blocking just because ideologies didn't match without even informing the other person is unexpected and sudden. I don't think anybody should do it 'cause blocking is an insult.
Do you think blocking someone unnecessarily is the right thing?
Have you ever blocked anyone in social media? Was it for valid reasons?

I don't think I've blocked anyone on social media. If anything, I'd like to be aware of things others are saying instead of being unaware because I've blocked them. Ahaha.
I've only ever blocked one person, and this was not on social media. This was some stranger who contacted me on the phone through text, because he got my number from the contact list of his ex-girlfriend, and he was demanding that I get her new contact information and give it to him. And mind you, his ex wasn't even a friend of mine. She was just someone who bought something from me some months back (I am a direct seller)...

That's good. and even if you do, it should be for a real reason.

Thanks. I wish some people had actual reasons for blocking someone.
