Done Watering 5+ Hours a Day

We are free of standing under the hot sun for 2 1/2 hours in the morning and again in the early evening, not counting plantings in our new island. That’s why I’m able to return to myLot! Finally had an irrigation system installed covering every lawn around our house and all the shrubbery. I chose not to have my flowers and garden watered. Best to do them as needed. Of course, with our luck, we didn’t have enough water pressure from our well. Had to get our patio contractor here to remove a stair which covered the well cap. Had the well company install a new well pump, and then check to make sure we had enough water in the well. We do! So now we have 14 zones. 7 zones alternate in the back and side lawns and the other 7 take care of the front on alternate days. When the irrigation company was adjusting the sprays, I got soaked, not one, but twice. . That taught me not to watch them!

@wolfgirl569 We are getting aerated and cut seeded right after it’s safe to do so - and fertilized. Hoping the grass will grow strong to block the weeds. Our lawn treatment company will oversee it. We have other lawns that were planted in the fall season and look terrific - except that the drought burnt huge sections. The are greening up with the irrigation system. Don’t know why we didn’t do it sooner.

@allknowing You know I will! We are actually having the landscaper who did that island mark off an area for a flower garden soon.

@DianneN - I usually got up to check if the irrigation worked in the vegetable garden. It started at 3 in the morning. This year I have to go out and water. Let's hope that lack of water does not become regular as in southern California.

@RubyHawk So true. That’s why we had to find out if our well could handle it. Alternative days will assure that.

Sounds like a lot of $ and a lot of trouble. Maybe in the spring we will get our front flower bed (which is all weeds) planted and landscaped. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend.

Nothing is easy. We had just had the well company out to fix a tank in the basement and to do a routine check. Yesterday, he returned to repair a pipe that had a slow leak. I hope you do get your front flowerbed planted and cleaned up. It makes the house look better. We are having the landscaper who did the island and plantings in the photo mark out a flower bed next week and have it dug out when he comes to kill our weeds. We can transplant some perennials now and add more and annuals next spring. Always something! Thanks and enjoy your Labor Day weekend, too. Hope your husband is doing well and taking it easy.

@DianneN Thanks. Hubs is still tired and dizzy; but I think it's from the meds and his RA. We're still hoping that the meds regulate his heartbeat and make it unnecessary to have his heart shocked.

My ex is obsessive about the lawn. We didn't have a sprinkler system at the house so Mr. Engineer figured out how to deal with it. He set up 5 of those moveable sprinklers that shoot water from one side to the other and then "rewind" to start over. He had 2 of them set to cover the front yard (with a traditional up/down one for the side of the driveway) and 3 to cover the backyard. His settings had the entire lawn covered. Instead of having to move/adjust the sprinkler every time, I just had to move the hose from one to the next. It was such a clever system!
