A Persistant Leak

Discovered a leak under the kitchen sink. After a bit of investigating I decided it was the cold water pipe to the washing machine. A quick trip to the plumbing shop for a new hose, five minutes work and all sorted. Except the leak persisted. A more in-depth study and I found two pin holes producing a fine spray, that was very hard to see, in the fork of the plastic Y pipe. Another trip to the plumb shop, £8 on shiny new parts and a short while later all replaced without leaks. I have been checking it regularly the last few days, so far so good! I am not one of nature’s handy people, so I was quite pleased to get this small task right and saved about £80, or more, on calling out a plumber to do the job.

Leaks can be the pits. We had one in the pipe under the hand-basin in the caravan - very difficult to get at - and it took ages to finally get it fully fixed. Until it was fixed, we had to flick a switch to turn the pump on, get the water we needed, flick the pump off and turn the tap to release the pressure. Plus I had to find somewhere else for all the towels. You did well to fix it yourself.

@Ronrybs These fittings always seem to be very difficult to get to.

@Ronrybs Well some people couldnt even be that handy to do a simple matter they would rather pay thousands to get someone to con them

Indeed, you get a bit of satisfaction doing it yourself, but I worry about my lack of skill and an keeping an eye on the whole thing!

Well done. I have to do the same, the pipe of the dishwasher under the kitchen sinks, needs to be changed. I still have the pieces.

@Ronrybs I had another sink installed and it came with several pipes that we did not need. I have to check if those in the kitchen are the same.

I have been debating if I should get some spares. The old one lasted 20 years so I am hoping for a similar performance from the new
