Satisfied sheep in the sunshine

Don’t these sheep look contented? We had just fed them some pellets and the greedy ones were making sure none got missed while the rest had gone off to sleep it off. They are all very rotund and don’t really need pellets but it keeps them used to humans. There are ten white ones and 13 coloured ones - or maybe it's the other way around. The one on the extreme left is not so fat. She is very old and not able to push among the others to get her share. She knows to stand back and wait for me to put down a small container just for her. Then I step back but stand nearby to stop any of the others from pushing her away. It’s a good system and works well.

Do you and Vince feel like you're back home with all the animals around you there? What would you do if they tried to push her away.... or are you telling us you're wearing a scary mask so they won't come close to you?

While they might push and shove while you're pouring out the pellets, they won't come near you at other times. Vince feeds them from over the fence so they don't shove him over. If one comes towards the old girl, I just have to walk towards it. There is one pet who isn't so scared but I shoo him off. If he gets too cheeky, I'll take a little stick with me and wave it at him.

@JudyEv Ohhh.... so you're scary enough for most of them without wearing a mask... I see.

Yes, they do look content! Are they tough livestock to take care of, or not so bad?

These are very easy. We just run the pellets out on the ground but the old one knows to come to the saucepan to get her share.

Animals are intelligent. That old sheep knows that you will feed her separately.

She is probably grateful that humans let her get her own share of food. I am so silly, up until now I thought all sheep were white, now I can see there are other colors. I also think deer are mostly brown, at least I've only seen brown ones in pictures and videos.

Thanks @DaddyEvil I've never actually seen a deer, there's nothing for them to eat here so they don't venture this far south.

You're correct @JudyEv I'm sure you've wondered about humming birds, they are hard to see when they're flitting about because they are so very fast but I can hear them.

It's interesting that she knows the system and, while she wasn't sure about me, once I put down the container and stepped back a little, she came up to the food.

@JudyEv I was just thinking your title sounds a bit like a tongue twister, to even make it better, it could be Seven Satisfied Sheep sit in sunshine. Try it, iis kind of hard to say.

They are basically there to keep the grass down. Their fleeces wouldn't be worth much.

@Ronrybs Each breed has been developed for a particular purpose. The wool from these would probably be used for carpet or stuffing. Manufacturers of fabrics and yarn usually like longer wool. These won't grow very long fleeces and the fleeces will be more coarse.
