To Hell With Pulling Back a Bit!

Okay okay!
I have made up my mind here, folks.
Yes. I am getting an RV. Probably a pull behind. I am working out the details as we speak. Probably by next spring.
I am still committed to my September 29, 2024 retirement date. But the work is in process to make sure that's a full retirement and not a semi-retirement. In other words, screw it, we're done.
The thing is, we are going to get this RV and I have no intention of letting happen to ours what happens to so many other ones.
That they just sit in the driveway or in storage.
My intention is to enjoy it to the max.
We are good financially now, of course. So, no worries there. But I want to really enjoy that retirement. So, because we make such good money working now, I am going to do everything I can to maximize it. Earn as much as we can, come hell or high water, hunker down, and put even more away and into our investments.
Make it count is what I am saying. Make it really count.
I said early on in my life that I had no desire to spend my days working to the bone until I can't work anymore, too old and too tired and too worn out to enjoy the fruits of my labors.
And that's what I am going to do.
Really, there's no point to just doing it anymore. Time to get on with life and enjoy all the scrimping and saving we have done through the years.
Answering a question many have, in the past asked me about "what are you going to do with all this money you've saved?"
Tell our bosses to kiss our asses and se la effing vie!

It was pretty obvious to anyone that was paying attention that you were thinking hard about getting an RV, no matter how much you denied it. I'm glad you've finally admitted it to yourself, too. I'm positive you and your wife will wear the poor RV out in your retirement.

@porwest As long as you're both having fun, that's what matters most.

@porwest Yes, this is true. When you reach that point. It can be quite the pain.

How old are you today? I believe it's beneficial to start planning for retirement at a young age since you can continue to enjoy life after retirement without having to worry about an ailing body. That is, if you are financially prepared to stop receiving monthly paychecks, I suppose you can do it immediately.

Well, the best of luck to you, and I agree there comes a time when life should be just enjoyed because life is so short anyway,

I fully retired back in 2020, threw my camping gear in my truck, and took off across the country to visit all the national parks in the lower 48. It was an amazing amount of freedom and opportunity, but it gave me time for a lot of reflection. I actually missed working. So I made a decision to continue my retirement by only being semi-retired, but with purpose. I’ve set up my schedule in such a way that I can travel when I want to and work when I want to. And I don’t work because I need to (I have a good investment portfolio and a lifelong pension), but because I want to keep building my retirement nest egg. At some point I will retire fully again, and do a lot more traveling. But for now I’m happy and content with the work/life balance I have created.

Definitely if you can do it and be comfortable. I worked until I retired on disability and was unable to do the things I wanted to do in retirement -- cook and bake, travel, etc. Kudos for putting your money where your mouth is!
