Times Sure Do Change

Back in about 2014, I quit driving. I had had a big bill for a sensor replacement and I just knew the other would probably go soon. I was lucky to have a long-time mechanic that would let me pay the bill in a couple of installments. And I think gas was a lot cheaper then too. I liked to always have my car in for an annual check-up and hoped it ran better and longer because of it.
I was thinking just now that if I was still trying to keep a car running these days I would be in a world of hurt financially. I would not have a cent to do anything else with and all of the extra money that I have now would go for insurance and gas each month. I am glad I don't have a car anymore. The stress would be too much for me too I think. I do miss having one at times but I think I am better off without one.

Whatever works best for you. We would be lost without a car. Too many doctors' appointments and food shopping trips and other errands.

I just have the occasional medical appointment. We have the food delivered.

As long as you're happy not driving, that's all that matters.

And that is what I have been doing. Great to see those $0.00 balances.

@LadyDuck .......I would love to go for a drive. I haven't in several years. My ex and I used to go for a ride all of the time. I miss that.

@celticeagle We need a car for the moment, but we use it only for emergencies and once a week to bring grocery home (NO grocery delivery here).

I have macular degeneration and gave up driving a few years ago, then we wrecked and Leo passed away. Our car was totaled and I’m glad not to have the worry of paying insurance, gas and upkeep.I live near everywhere i must go so I’m very lucky. I can see very well now but I might not always.

Same here. If we can't have it delivered, we don't need it. We have a grocery, convenience, dental, chiropractor and three or four fast food establishments all within walking distance.

@celticeagle That’s all good. I don’t have dental nearby.

I rather enjoy taking an Uber and not having to be responsible for the running of a car.

I commute to get around. I'm happy for you you had happy driving days. I never learned to drive.

My daughter hasn't either. She has a learning disability and mental issues so this is best.

If I could not drive I likely would have to move. Nothing is available in walking distance here and no place delivers.

That would be hard. I am house bound so that would be very difficult for me.

I'm glad you can manage without a vehicle. Where we live, we either own a vehicle or we're stuck. There are no taxis or public transport. Even our grocery store is 2 miles from our house. Our doctor is 2 miles in the other direction.

I have wished occasionally that I still drove. Like the early morning trip to the vet. But I found a way.

Car repairs these days are out of this world for me to deal with if I were still driving an auto today. My relatives these days are driving the auto I used to drive since 2009.

I used to enjoy driving. I didn't lose a car. I quit using one and finally let it go, but never lost it.
