“Escape (The Pina Colada Song) is a song written and recorded by British-born American singer Rupert Holmes. It was on his album Partners in Crime and the lead single in 1979. The song became the last number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 of the 1970s. The song became the 11th best-selling single of 1980 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart so it was the first pop song to rise to number one on the Billboard pop chart in two different decades.

It’s one of those quirky songs that I don’t really like all that much but I don’t really dislike, either. I don’t mind hearing it once in a while, not 50 times an hour like when it was a hit.
Rupert Holmes is a Tony Award-winning playwright, too! Whodathunkit!
