My back yard, sorta.............

Wild flowers in my back yard

Last month was very wet which is unusual for this part of the country. It rained often enough so that now I have loads of grasses, various wild types plus bermuda and a few wild flowers. I've added an insert of a daisy blossom, some kind of orange colored blossom and a penny, look how big that penny is. I also added a shot of the tiny butterflies or moths we get. It is about the same size as the daisy. They aren't big but if I look closely I see the beauty, thank you Great Spirit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I thought you'd get a giggle outta these funny birds

They come up every year even when it's normal but boy give them a little water and they go nuts.

Very pretty and lush. I think that is an orange poppy flower. I have a few of them, too.

Do they grow on really tall stalks? The one in the picture above is about 3 foot tall.

I have only seen them in pictures or videos. I've heard they can be aggressive when they want something

@rebelann Oh thanks. I'm going to practice this next week and try to put out a post with it. Today isn't a good day to practice, I've been up all night with my gall bladder bothering me. Ugh, I have been waiting for 4 months for the surgeon to call me.

Yes it did. There are some purple ones but it was so windy I didn't get a clear shot of them.

Yes, I so like to see them but they are not very abundant, I have to look for them as they are small and easily hidden by tall weeds and grasses that grow very fast when we get a lot of rain.

Thanks. Most are simply reed like grass that used to grow here when the Rio Grade river used to flow freely.

I probably will, it's cheaper than buying a weed whacker ..... but if it rains again some of those plants will grow over 5 foot tall and attract all kinds of bugs

I think so too. The problem is that the yellow daisies are so small that many people do not notice them, they are all over the deserts.

@rebelann There are several very small wild flowers, people do not even notice them. Also the wild small white daisies that grow in early spring are so cute.

Kinda but mostly it's all just weeds. Well, maybe I should just call them wild plants as I doubt the Great Spirit thinks of his creations as weeds.

We'll never know, I can't speak kritter but I imagine herbivores make some kind of distiction .... predators probably don't give a flying hoot.

It's been raining a lot here since August. I have taken a break from gardening till the raining stops. My garden is full of grasses and weeds. I am sure that it would be a lot of muscle work when I get back to gardening.

I thought the orange one might be a hollyhock, but it seems too small. Not sure on the yellow daisy either. All so pretty though.

Yeah, way too small as a hollyhock. The yellow ones are daisies, I see them everywhere in our desert. I need to wait for the winds to die down and get a better shot of the orange flower, I'm really curious what it is.
