Demanding to be called by pronouns, I just don't get it.

I honestly do try to keep up on world news and weather, and I read and make every attempt to try to always be learning new things. If I don't understand something, I generally look it up and try to find out what it is I don't understand.
However, there are limits. There are now so many titles, names, and forms of sexuality, I just get lost. I heard a new one, but evidently it was so new it hasn't hit google yet. Reading about these things people claim to be is so confusing, I was better off not trying to understand.
Is this all normal? My kids didn't go through anything like this. I understand gay, lesbian, bi, the basics. But now all of a sudden, some people think it's cool to figure out new sexualities to be.
This is the daughter of a friend of mine--no names given. She was a sweet thing, but now she is bitter and hateful, and mad at her Mom for calling her a she, a girl, a daughter. Evidently a lot of parents are going through this...
Isn't life confusing sometimes?
Here's the quote~~
I am genderfaunet. that means my pronouns are he/they. I AM NOT A GIRL PLEASE DONT REFER TO ME AS ONE

According to what some people have said or written, there have always been tons of different genders? Like I said, so confused.

@MarieCoyle I just talked with Pretty about this and she claims that the kids want to be "special" so are making up all these alternate genders so they get attention.

Yes, it's already enough confusion in the world, just making up names and titles they doing to much.

I agree. It's like trying to reinvent the wheel. All these descriptions are just silly.

The more they invent, the more ridiculous it gets.

If my child said something like that to me, I would ask what was in their pants because that's what I was calling them until they learned manners!

@DaddyEvill I really have a problem with allowing teenagers to get this done. Most teens are not going to make good decisions on this.

I have always believed in having a simple basic system of two genders.

They are taking "political correctness" to a silly new level. Have you heard of gender fluidity? A person's gender identity or expression could change back and forth from male to female. CRAZY

@MarieCoyle This practice of using gender-neutral pronouns for the sake of political correctness will never take root here in the Philippines but if it does, it won't change the way I identify people's gender. You're either a he or a she.

That's the way we all learned. He, or she. Heaven forbid I call a girl a girl and a boy a boy...although to be fair, sometimes I just can't tell without putting a lot of thought into it and observing the person.

Gee, let's add more confusion to the mix and switch back and forth. Some of these things just make me sit here like an idiot wondering why I don't understand this stuff. I think I am just too astonished to get it.

She resents her mother so much for refusing to refer to her and he/they. She hadn't seen her father in years and he didn't make an effort to see her, but she called him and went to live with him, because he did agree to refer to her as she wished. Really hurt her mother, who has done everything for that girl.

Since the young girl just turned 17, he was paying child support still. He seems to think it will be cheaper to just let her live with him. He's got a rude awakening coming.

My teen daughter has to deal with friends who wish to be called this or that pronoun . . . but she is more understanding and "respectful" (as she would say) of it all. "We" use he/she as more of a general description type thing . . . "they" use these labels to mean something more expanded than that - which is more information than I really need to know in most cases. I have nothing against someone's sexuality . . . but why must I keep track of these things. I respect people for being the person that they are, not their sexuality - sheesh. Some of her friends identify as "furries" - so yes, life can be VERY confusing sometimes.

I think about my Dad, and my grandparents, now long gone.
Dad especially would have had an absolute fit over this (well, and other happenings in our world, but we won't go there right now). I can hear him roar!

I am either lucky or oblivious because I don't think there's anyone in my immediate vicinity that demands any of that weird pronoun stuff. Here's hoping I don't encounter it... sounds like a headache.
Edit:
Come to think of it, it might be because in our language, there isn't really a he or she (or whatever else). It's just "siya" (singular) or "sila" (plural) which have no gender.

@MarieCoyle Surely, it's here already in some way. I'm pretty sure there are some local actors being called this or that pronoun...
But, I guess, personally, in my family for example, or in the neighborhood, I don't hear anyone (yet) insisting on particular pronouns.
I hope it stays that way...

If you haven't encountered the pronoun thing yet where you live, I imagine you will.
And yes, it is definitely a headache.

I'm hoping we won't go through this. Never heard that term, I wondered if it was some hybrid with a faun (half-human and half-goat mythological creature)!
Strangely I would have thought that the pronoun one would use when speaking to someone would be 'you'.

That's already happened. Termed as Species Identity Disorder, also ''otherkin'' and some other terms I stumbled on. One grown man decided he was a red fox. Another guy decided he was a turtle.
The world has wigged out. Did they just wake up one day and decide they weren't human?

@MarieCoyle You are too kind Marie. I just don't get this behavior. It is causing a lifetime of heartache for some of these under age kids that don't know yet what or who they truly are. Some things they are doing cannot be undone.

Oh, good grief! Unbelievable!
So if one of them has that Species Identity Disorder, do they put that in, too? You know, Jim Black, identifies as a turtle? Susie Q, identifies as a canary?
Like I said, the world is just crazy.

It's not just mama type of people who don't get it. My two college student grandchildren, a boy and a girl, both say yes, they are used to seeing and hearing these people but no, they just don't understand it.
