My Dinner Tonight 9/17/22

I asked Pretty what she was interested in having for dinner tonight but she couldn't decide. I was having fun talking with some people on myLot and didn't want to take much time to cook, so I suggested cutting Colby-Jack cheese, Summer Sausage and adding crackers to the plate. (Pretty doesn't like Summer Sausage but did say to cut her some cheese and add crackers to her plate.) I don't eat this very often because it's fattening but delicious. Do you eat beef summer sausage with cheese and crackers? Photo is mine.

No, I don't eat such food you know why. Don't give an excuse that you were busy with talking to the people on mylot so could cook anything. You could have asked us if you're taking some time out as you have to prepare dinner. What Pretty is going to cook now. It's irritating when there are only two people at home and they have different choices of food.

@DaddyEvil No. I feel they are heavy and my stomach doesn't allow it. My wife cooks what we don't like but we have to eat as she doesn't allow us to cook separately.

@sjvg1976 Oh, I see... When I was married, I did the cooking. If one of my wives didn't like it, she could cook whatever else she wanted.

Pretty has been asking me to cook supper lately when she could offer to cook for me part of the time. When she cooks she makes things that I won't eat. We eat at different times the rest of the day. Do you eat cheese?

I do not know what a summer sausage is, I have to check what we have here that sounds similar. Okay I checked salame in Italian, I like but not beef, pork and beef mixed.

@DaddyEvil In Italy you have a pure pork salame, or a mix or pork and beef. The salame does not need to be refrigerated. I remember those hanging in the granary of my grandparents. When I was a kid I was trying to find a way to reach them and have some slices while they were sleeping.

@LadyDuck Summer sausage doesn't need to be refrigerated. I usually do keep it in the fridge but that just because that's where I keep the cheese to go with it.

I've never heard of pork and beef mixed in a summer sausage. It is one or the other that I can get here.

That's a good dinner, but it's not my dinner here. We always have sticky rice grilled fish and beef and spinach salad.

Why feel sorry for Pretty? If she's hungry, she knows how to cook, too. You told me you love food but I don't like all foods, so don't know what foods other people will eat. Thank you. I've finished eating now. I hope your family enjoys lunch.

Was this the suggestion you made recently to a myloter who was going to a picnic at a farmer's market? I thought it sounded good at the time. I cook that kind of sausage sometimes with potatoes, carrots, and onions.

@DaddyEvil Most of the time I use country pork sausage that has to be cooked first, but sometimes I use summer sausage with the potatoes, carrots, and onions. I just brown the summer or Italian sausage first.

Love it! In Hawaii, holidays is when Walmart gets summer sausage. Safeway has beef sausages all year round but pricey. This evening, leftover brunch. Karate shrimp, which I bought from Marukai Wholesale Mart, reheated with all butter garlic & ginger. Marinated lotus roots & bamboo shoots also from Marukai. Roasted sweet potatoes too.

I've never had such a dinner like that before in my entire life. When I don't want to cook it's either take out or either having ramen in a cup,no clean up just toss and done. Since you said that it is delicious and fattening,I'd be willing to try it cause those are mostly the type of food that taste better than the healthy ones anyway.

We're still scared of Covid so don't get takeout. We cook everything we eat at home. (And Pretty will eat ramen but I won't. Yucky!) If you can find summer sausage in a store near you, you should try it. It's really good.

@sica98 When I was a young adult, I ate ramen a lot and burned out on it. Pretty eats and likes a lot of foods that I don't want. The government and big businesses here pretend Covid is gone but it's not. There are still people catching it and having to self-isolate because of it. If it was gone, people wouldn't need to do that. There are still a lot of hospitalizations because of Covid here, too.

@DaddyEvil You are very selective when it comes to food. What's wrong with ramen now..You and Pretty have opposite taste in food. During covid there was no take out here in my home at all but now things are supposedly getting better so we are buying take out again.I'll try to find them if I can here.

A charcuterie plate ! We've done similarly at times . . . super easy on those nights you just can't get to cooking. We rarely have "summer" sausages on hand . . . but I loved those Hickory Farm samples of it in my childhood. My mom would buy them every now and then, or my dad would get them in a food gift basket for Christmas from his clients. How are you doing? Hope your week went well .

@DaddyEvil Glad to hear all is going well . True - any bit of relief is a good thing . . . hopefully they figure out the swelling part soon too. Best of luck with your appointments this week! "We" are ok. Having to deal with teen daughter and college stuff next month. Son doing well in middle school. Hubby just put in his notice at his "new" job from May to go back to his old place that got bought out by a bigger company . . . better pay and not having to go to 2nd shift - this will be a good thing. The not ok part is my dad is going through some health issues - he had to go to ER on Friday and I'm going to dr appointments tomorrow and throughout the week with my parents . . . affects of long term smoking even though he quit 5 years ago.

Thanks. Everything is still going well for us... More doctor visits this coming week. The new eye drops help with the aching eyes but not with the swelling. (Any help is better than none at all, though.) How are you and your family doing? Anything new?

@much2say Thank you. Oh, wow! So much is happening with your family! I had no idea your daughter was old enough to enter college! (I guess you adopted her... Everyone knows you're only 21. ) Good luck with that. It was fun when Pretty entered college. Is your daughter going to a local college or is she moving out to attend? Congrats to your hubby! I'm sure you're both happy with the move back to the old company with the better pay and move to 1st shift! I'm sorry to hear about your dad and hope things aren't as bad as your description makes them sound.

No, it's available year round. It's called that because it's a dry-ish sausage that doesn't have to be refrigerated during the summer.
