Obituary for Gloria - the Domestic-Divaonline

About 15 years ago, I began writing online and the first site where I wrote was eHow. As I wrote articles there, I noticed another writer on the site who would sometimes mention the same locations in her articles as I mentioned in mine. I private messaged her, and discovered that she lived only about 10 miles from me, here in Southern California. We immediately arranged to meet, and thus began a close friendship.
I know there are a few other writers here on MyLot who may remember her, too, including @JudyEv
Gloria and I lunched together, introduced our husbands to each other, went for walks and picnics (which is when we took the photo at the top of this post). We proof-read each other's books and webpages, and made crafts together in her art studio. You an see photos of "Studio 13," her personal art studio in her home, at her website:

However, I am not sure how long her husband will leave her website up for the public to see.
The real name of the "Domestic Diva" was Gloria, and she died on September 4, just a couple of months after being diagnosed with untreatable lung cancer. She led the healthiest life of anyone I knew, maintaining a low weight, eating a low-carb diet, and enjoying a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Her death at age 75 (nearly 76) was a shock.
For the other online writers who knew her, here is part of the obituary her husband posted online:
Gloria Hilda Uhler
September 08, 1946 - September 04, 2022
"Gloria Uhler, the incredible love of my life, passed away at her home September 4, 2022. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by close friends and family. She knew that her suffering would soon be over and she courageously accepted it.
Gloria was born September 8, 1946 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, where her older sister, Rose, still lives. Gloria had two children, was the stepmother of two, and the step-grandmother of three.
Gloria was vibrant and an inspiration to everyone she met. Her talents abounded. As part of the Orange County Clay Guild, she fabricated many ingenious works of art and numerous inventive pieces of jewelry. She published an instructive book about the creative methods she used in her crafting. Gloria sewed extensively, constructing clothing for herself, family members, and a great many others. She created multiple paintings and other works of art, many of which are displayed in her home. Throughout her advertising career, Gloria was an accomplished writer. After retiring, she co-wrote a screenplay which was made into a film. She was the definition of multi-talented."
Here is an excerpt from the final letter that Gloria wrote to me:
"I have been fortunate in so many ways. My years have been so richly textured and colorful. Sometimes they were wild and, in my view, extraordinary. I had one-of-a-kind experiences, loving family, exciting travel, and a community of friends larger than I could ever have dreamed possible. Take a drink in hand for you, for me, for lives well lived. Dance around the room knowing that I've had the time of my life. That's really something to celebrate!"
Someday, I may be able to dance around and celebrate her life. However, today, I am so sad to lose this dear friend.

I know how hard those past weeks have been for you, since the day you knew that Gloria was diagnosed with that form of cancer. You have spent so many wonderful days with her, keep the nice memories, celebrate those days, I know that it is too early and you are sad and shocked, but she would not like to see you sad.

@DeborahDiane You surely have many photos of you two together. The best is to look at those photos and remember the many happy moments you spent together.

@LadyDuck - Yes, pictures are very helpful reminders of the fun times, aren't they? I also have photos of my husband and me with Cayla and her husband, when we were all younger and healthier. We used to spend a lot of time together, and I enjoy those photos.

@JudyEv - She certainly enjoyed her life! I wish I had downloaded a beautiful photo of her from a trip to Tahiti, when she was sitting on a dock, surrounded by beautiful items she was purchasing from a street vendor. It was one of my favorite photos of her. It was on her Facebook page, but her husband has now closed her Facebook accounts.

@JudyEv - Yes, it was about two weeks before her husband closed her Facebook accounts, but I think he did the right thing. Gloria was on several other sites, but I think they will fade away over time. InfoBarrel and eHow are both gone. Her Instagram and Twitter accounts are open, but I think they will fade away. If I notice any unusual activity on either, I will mention it to her husband. Otherwise, I am sure he has many other things to worry about.

This made me teary-eyed, Gloria is such a talented, creative, and wonderful human being. I'm sorry for your loss. I know people who love her must be devastated and at the same time at peace for she will no longer suffer. The obituary written by her husband is also so touching, heartwarming, and beautiful. It describes her as a good human being who has lived her life to the fullest. May she rest in peace.

Thank you so much! Gloria was one of the healthiest people I know, and she gave up smoking while she was still in her 20s. Who would expect that she would die of lung cancer late in life? It was such a shock!

Even when there is someone I have become friends with online that I only knew online passes it is surely always comes with a sense of bittersweet. We make connections, in person or otherwise and of course, even though what we share are just words on a page a lot of the time, you know there are real people behind them, living real lives, with real beating hearts.
Knowing them in person must make it much more difficult. Very sorry for your loss.

@porwest - Thank you so much. You are right. We do become attached to the people we "meet" online. Knowing them in person makes it even more real, especially when something happens to them.
