My cyclamen is enjoying a road trip

I was given this pot plant (I guess I should say potted plant) for my birthday in July. When we were asked to house-sit several properties, I didn’t think it was fair to ask someone else to mind it. If it was going to die, I thought it only fair that I kill it myself. So I’ve taken it with me to each of our house-sits and it is still alive which makes me pretty happy. I am ensuring that I don’t water it too often and mostly it stays outside in the cold which seems to suit it better than having it sitting in a warm room. It has spent our time at the endurance riding sitting under the caravan. By the time we get home in another four weeks or so, it will be quite a well-travelled plant. Just to bring you up-to-date, we have two nights in our own home then go to Grass Valley for about a week.

Your plant is obviously enjoying traveling around with you. I hope it doesn't die. It's looking very good!

I've been leaving it out in the cold and it seems to be working.

@marlina It's still flowering about two months and still has a few buds to come out.

Your plant really is thriving and is probably enjoying traveling around with you rather than being cooped up home alone.

Sure beats staying home all by herself.

I find a sheltered spot for it outside where it's nice and cold. I think it prefers the cold.

Lucky plant that it is for having the opportunity to travel with you. Most plants do not have that privilege to travel from one place to another. I just hope that it stays as healthy and flowery as that is right now. This is the first time to see this kind of plant.

@JudyEv Is it a delicate plant to care? It is lovely to look at especially with the flowers on them.

I hope I'll be able to keep it alive for quite some time yet. I don't have a good reputation when it comes to looking after such plants.

"Well Traveled Plant" could lead to jealousy from fellow plants! May be some day Disney could even come up with a story of Jealous fellow talking plants!! I think I would have to check out more of your posts and then trace your route on a map of Australia to catch up !

@JudyEv I remember catching up with a lot of your posts sometime during 2020 (Lockdown plus more restrictive Covid 19 days). I thoroughly enjoyed them. But now I get a bit less time to be on Mylot except when it might be an extra holiday or something.

@JudyEv Yet not everyone retired or having time travels that much. There is also a personal inclination.

We've only been going round in a small portion of Western Australia. There is a heap more to do if we feel so inclined.

What's a beautiful flower. I think your plants survive, because you have a good heart. Like How could he possibly survive when you traveled for a week.

I could have given it to someone to look after but I didn't think it would be fair to a friend as they are a bit fussy about their conditions. Luckily it seems to like travelling. And thank you for the kind words.

@sickly09 I would only give it to them to mind till we returned from travelling but in this case I decided to take it with me.

@JudyEv The flower is a gift from a friend. If you give the flower to someone else, maybe your friend will feel sad.

It was really done mostly as a favour and we haven't had any more requests so once we finish in the middle of October that will probably be it. But we'd consider any more requests on their merits. We couldn't cope with anything that involved very much physical labour.

@rebelann We would only take on the 'easy' ones. We've done it for free and because we want do but there is no necessity for us to say 'yes' unless we want to.

@JudyEv Incredible that you mention my wild cyclamens. I went out two days ago just to check if they were starting to bloom. The scent is so strong that I could know even before approaching the area where they are planted. Wild cyclamens bloom when the days are cool.

@LadyDuck I haven't noticed the ones here having a scent at all. I'll have to bury my nose a bit deeper in the flowers and see if I can make out any scent.

Anna (@LadyDuck) told me she has them wild in her garden. I'd always thought of them as indoor plants but now I find a cool/cold spot and keep them outside. It seems to be working.

Cyclamens are plants that can stay outside all the year long. They die if you keep them inside and the temperature is over 18º C, so it is a lot better to keep them outside all the year long. Your plant is beautiful and it proves that the plant keeps better outside.

I'm very pleased that your comment some time ago helped me realise that these plants can stay outdoors. I always thought they were indoor plants. This one is proving that it's best to keep them outside.
