First, I’d like to wish a very joyous chag sameach and L’Shanah Tova to all our Israeli and Jewish myLotters. Secondly, I’m going to have to do more of these countdowns. I left a lot of songs off the list! But for the top pick this time around, I thought I’d give you one of my favorite songs that you know and would swear was a big hit…but it wasn’t. #1: Desperado - Eagles And you’re thinking NO WAY ON EARTH that wasn’t a hit. A hit? Ha! It was never even released as a single! Now, Linda Ronstadt covered it like she’d had these guys as a backing band once upon a time. And, believe it or not, in country, Johnny Rodriguez had a hit with his cover. But the version you know and love and think is so stinking beautiful, the original Eagles rendition, was not even a single off the album. Mind blown. While you have “Hotel California” as the overplayed FM rock anthem and “Take It Easy” as the “feel-good” anthem, it’s this song that’s the definitive Eagles ballad. So beautiful, even 50 years later.
