The Hurricane Looks Quite Frightening

I have been watching some storm coverage on CNN, and they just showed some cars up to their roofs in water. I think the damage with this storm may be extensive. It may be something like Hurricane Michael (I think it was) which also caused extensive damage. I feel for anyone in Florida at this time, especially any in the path of the hurricane. The recovery from this one, could go on quite a long time I fear.

So far Daytona seems to be doing well, and crews feel safe to work on restoring power to some of the areas without power. There are down lines and trees, but so far no where close to me. I still have power.

Looks like it will be quite bad, reminds me of Katrina.

It already is bad, at least in parts of Florida. I am sure it won't cause the loss of life that Katrina did. however there could be some.

The strength of Hurricane Ian reminds me of the strength of Hurricane Katrina and Laura which were monster storms.

They say this is a lot like Hurricane Charley which caused massive devastation in Punta Gorda but they said that was a short duration storm which moved quickly. This one is a long duration storm,

@snowy22315 A long duration storm is even worse than a short storm.

The thing is it could spawn tornadoes in some places too, as it moves north.

We watched some weather coverage while we were out for pizza last night. The forecaster made some comparisons to Katrina, but also to a hurricane Chad which followed a similar path across the state of Florida.

I heard them compare it to Charley, another one that took a similar path.

@snowy22315 So perhaps people can stay at home and no need to go out to school or work? Anyway, it is better to stay indoor when there is a hurricane. Please prepare for enough goods and hopefully the water and electricity still work well.

@youless Yes, in Florida especially people need not be out on the roads! However, some are and end up having to be rescued.

Thanks, it is quite windy here in Virginia right now. Not sure if these are the headwinds of the storm or something eles.

@RebeccasFarm Yeah, maybe Florida's worst ever. We will have to see how bad it turns out to be in terms of deaths. We already know there is massive property destruction.

I have not heard of alot of deaths so far so that is good. The only ones I have heard of were some migrants on the way to the shore.

@snowy22315 I think that they evacuated people in time before they were trapped.

Yes, that is a blessing. There were some migrants killed in a boat nearby, but no one living in the state that I have heard of.

The only deaths I have heard so far is some migrants that were on the way to Florida. 20 of them perished, however, there will likely be more.

Right now we only have heavy rain and wind and are hoping not to lose power. I cannot do without my PC but we will see. Have to be realistic on this one,
