I really enjoy listening to a cleverly written tune by an artist/band who takes a break from writing about serious issues to record a song with a funny/silly/unusual lyrics or title. Afterall, even a serious songwriter has a sense of humor. So, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the number of songs I really liked when putting together this series. Let's see how many of them you find enjoyable as well... I enjoy a tune which uses a person's name in a humorous way. Here are some funny songs about people using their name in the title (part 1). Let's see if you remember these song's crazy lyrics. Comments, musings, your own favorite funny songs and trivia welcome... 1. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey- Paul McCartney -This tune is from Paul McCartney's first solo album post Beatles. I really liked the album and this song particularly. The song is filled with catchy, clever lyrics, comic character voices, sound effects, fine melodies and interesting musical changes. Some listeners did not like the song, but apparently enough did for in America it became McCartney's first #1 hit as a solo artist. 2. Cross-Eyed Mary- Jethro Tull -This band's progressive/hard rock style I found a really interesting listen. And picturing Ian Anderson standing on one leg playing the flute singing those funny unique lyrics always put me in a joyous mood, every time I listened to them. And of course, seeing the band in concert twice didn't hurt, lol. Have you ever heard of this tune? Really unique music and not for everyone's taste. TRIVIA CHALLENGE ***Now for our trivia music challenge for those who like to play along. See if you can guess these selections and the bonus... Words in "quote marks" provide valuable clues! Name today's tune, artist or facts: 1. In 1982 "Tommy Tutone" had a #4 hit with a song title which had a "telephone number (867-5309) and a girl's name." Now that's a unusually funny way to come up with a song! And the song's theme is just as unique. It's about a guy who gets the "girl's phone number off a bathroom wall." He can't work up the courage to call her but thinks he can have her if he ever does. -Do you know the name of the girl? Which is the rest of the song title. 2. The Beatles had a number of interestingly titled songs in their musical career. John Lennon wrote one that was on the "1967 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band LP." It also used a "girl's name" in the title. Many people thought this song was about drugs, since the letters "LSD" are prominent in the title. But it was actually a schoolmate of John's son Julien. a girl who has the same first name as a certain female "Peanuts comic strip character." And Julien had drawn a picture of her wearing a very valuable piece of jewelry. The kind usually reserved for "wedding rings." -Do you know the title of this very popular Beatles tune from the Sgt. Pepper's album? 3. This #1 song was written by this artist for the 1968 movie called "The Graduate" starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft. This song featured the famous lyric, "Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio?" Being a big Yankee fan, this musician used this baseball icon to represent heroes of the past. Another song most associated with this music duo is "Bridge Over Troubled Water." -Do you know the name of these two artists and their song with a lady's name for a title? Ok, 'let's see the funny side of this trivia" and solve these songs and artists. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as The Temptations would say... "Don't be too Proud to Beg." Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new edition soon. Hope you can wait till then, lol. Stay tuned... Jenny is correct Fun fact about the band- Tommy Tutone is the name of the band, not the lead singer. The group, led by Tommy Heath and Jim Keller, originally called itself Tommy and the Two-Tones. LSD stands for "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" although the song was really about a picture John Lennon's song brought home from school with a girl flying in the sky. Yes, those 2 guys from New Yourk wrote this tune Coo, coo, ca-choo, Mrs. Robinson!

1. Listen, I know men can be desperate, but to believe something written on the bathroom wall????? Holy Jenny, Batman!!! BTW, does Tommy’s name refer to his car? He has a Tutone colored convertible??? 2. I’ve read that the song “Judy in Disguise With Glasses” got its name as a send-up of Lucy in the Die with Skymonds. 3. Ah, a Beatles theme! You realize that there’s a line out of “I Am the the Walrus” in that song! “Goo-goo-ga-jube, Mrs. Robinson’s Walrus!” Fun fact: Paul Simon said he had originally that as “Mrs. Roosevelt,” but changed it for the movie. Funner fact: Anne Bancroft spent the last 41 years of her life as Mrs. Mel Brooks!!! They did a remake of To Be or Not To Be together in the early 80s, which is actually pretty serious for a Mel Brooks movie.

1. You mean the band was not named after Tommy Heath's shoes? 2. Ah, Judy in Disguise another tune with an unusual funny title And since you mentioned the glasses' theme, I'd be amiss if I did not give a shout out to those boys from Texas and their "Cheap Sunglasses." 3. Nice trivia additions on that Bee-tals tune. Yes, with Bancroft and Brooks I guess opposites do attract. They say having a "sense of humor" is sexy to a lady, so Anne did not stand a chance Excellent responses and I'm not "tickling your funny bone."
