Robbie’s of Taylorsville

Down in the Keys there’s a place called Robbie’s of Islamorada, where you can feed tarpon. My trip today was to Taylorsville Lake State Park, which had a feature that you might call “Robbie’s of Taylorsville.”
I’ve been to Taylorsville Lake State Park before (I wrote about going to the dam area a year or so ago), and I think it’s a terrific place for just relaxing and enjoying the beauty of an early autumn afternoon. As you can see by the top photo, the leaves aren’t in full color yet; however, the yellows (in particular) are starting to overpower the green.
My first stop was at the boat ramp, where I spent a few minutes watching people load their boats onto their trailers. Yes, I know there are tons of “boat trailer fail” videos out there, but I didn’t see any of that in person. Those guys handled things quite well. I even saw one launch his pontoon into the water. (Yes, I’m easily amused. Thanks for noticing. )
After that, I went over to the marina, where I encountered the pack of hungry carp. I was laughing so hard when one of the fish literally jumped up on another’s back to get at the fish food I was throwing to them! That was really cool, and cheap: just a quarter for a handful of fish food from a gum ball dispenser.
For you fans of The Godfather, the fish told me Luka Brasi is still sleeping with them.
It was another great day!!!

I told them to tell Luka “hi” for all of us. You can see the very beginnings of the color change. Our peak of the foliage season is in about two-three weeks.

@LadyDuck — we had a very rainy August and September, and then they said colors would be great. This morning the same meteorologist said if we don’t get any rain this month it’ll dampen the colors. I wish they’d make up their minds!!!

@FourWalls Well done, I hope the carps will tell him.
We had no rain during many months, many of trees are brown, I hope those will recover. The healthy trees are still green also here.

Yeah, and they so easily sucker people like me into thinking they’re going to die if I don’t feed them.

I’ve watched the video feed of those tarpon being fed at Robbie’s. It’s hilarious to watch the people jump as the tarpon grab the fish out of their hands.

As if to say “throw it here, lady! Play bean bag toss with the fish mouths!”

Oh, no, this is in Kentucky near Louisville. Florida is pretty flat, so you won’t see much in the way of hills or mountains there. The fish feeding frenzy just reminded me of a place in Florida.

It’s more of a local secret than a very popular tourist attraction. The fish were so funny to watch. They’re huge and obviously well-fed, but they were trying to present themselves as starving.

I don’t blame you in the least! I had so much fun feeding the ducks last week at Brown Park.

When we went to Joplin to have my tooth extracted two days ago, trees were just starting to get yellow leaves here. Normally, the middle of October is the start of the fall tourist season. (We didn't have leaves that changed color last year and I was very disappointed in not seeing them.) It appears we'll have the full color season this year.
I hope you're enjoying your mini-vacation.

@FourWalls While our pond here had fish, oh and water, even the catfish would come up like that when we started throwing food. If we were talking we could watch the bluegill follow us around it hoping.

If you’re not into lakes and boats it’s not much. I love waterside, though, so I was quite happy to be there.

I guess if you can't make it to Robbie's, carp will have to do. I've fed masses of carp before; and it's almost gross!! All those carpy mouths vying for food! Great pix.
