A quick note, for you three people who follow me: I won’t be online again until tomorrow evening. Nothing’s wrong, just going out for a midweek retreat. You won’t miss anything. Speaking of “nothing,” here’s today’s song with “nothing” in the title.
#7: Nothing But a Breeze - Jesse Winchester
Let’s hear NJ Chic say she doesn’t know this one! Yeah, one of Jimmy Buffett’s favorite songwriters, and Buffett has covered this one himself. Of course, Jesse Winchester wrote one of Buffett’s greatest covers ever, “Biloxi.”
Winchester was so incredibly underrated as a singer and songwriter I’ll take any publicity he got (like Buffett or Emmylou Harris covering his song “Defying Gravity,” or many, including Don Henley, covering “Brand New Tennessee Waltz”).
If Buffett covered this you know it’s got a feel-good vibe. It did, and it does.
Nothing But a Breeze
Written by Jesse Winchester
Recorded by Jesse Winchester
From Nothing But a Breeze, 1977

No bells in your head, either, huh? Makes it good and quiet.

@TheHorse has heard it, but he always ignores me….then accuses me of never posting songs he knows.
(He’s a big Jesse Winchester fan, too.)
Hope you did at least enjoy it.

@FourWalls I always wondered, after listening to this song for the 100th time, if he felt more comfortable with the South or the North.

@TheHorse — probably. That’s part of his charm. (Personally, I’d say the north. Southerners look at rhumba men kinda funny.)

Maurice Chevalier did the trick for me.

I did. I love midweek retreats, and I really should do more of them. It’s just hard to find small ones that aren’t on the weekend.
