Loving oneself is a good way to be able to love others

They say that you cannot give what you don't have. So, in this regard, I believe that to truly love another person, you have to love yourself first.
Sometimes, we are the worst critics of ourselves because of our insecurities. However, if we genuinely love ourselves and appreciate what we have, we would also be able to love another person, genuinely.
What are your thoughts on this?
