Socialising with friends and pancakes for breakfast

The Boat Harbour camping ground has been taken over by new people. They are a delightful couple and were very anxious to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. They could have been forgiven for being a little out of sorts as they would have lost out on camping fees because of the cancellation of the endurance ride. But they were very philosophical about it and gave us all such a good time none of us would hesitate to return if and when we have the chance. On Saturday evening, we all sat around the campfire, chatting and sharing stories. There was a ‘camp kitchen’ with a fridge, microwave, barbecue and other bits and pieces. On the Sunday morning, the host cooked pancakes for us all which was much appreciated. The couple are originally from Germany which might explain why there wasn’t any Vegemite among the various spreads on offer.

I've tasted Vegemite... It isn't because they're from Germany that they didn't offer that around.

I read how it was "discovered" and couldn't believe people actually eat that.

Most of the people were from the endurance ride group so we knew them. Some we didn't know very well so we had the chance to get to know those better.

My son just asked me the other day what vegemite is. From learning about it here at myLot I was able to tell him. I wonder if I could find it online to buy for my son to try. That’s so wonderful that this place was taken over by such nice people!

@shaggin It might be a bit like Marmite or Bonox but I don't know if you have them in the US either. It's very salty.

That was a nice campfire and you had delicious pancakes, they surely did not want to seem them covered with Vegemite. I know that I do not place ketchup on the table when I cook and I invite people-

They are a great bunch. We all felt sorry for the ride organisers having to cancel as a lot of work goes inti these rides. So it was nice that this group showed their support.

It's at the far south of the state and a long drive for most people. Also the end of the season. They didn't get enough entries to make it viable so in the end it was just a social ride for a few locals. We'd already paid for two nights so paid a bit extra for one night glamping which meant we didn't need to haul the caravan four hours.

We all enjoyed the time together. Sometimes, during a ride, people are a bit stressed and very busy with their horses, etc, so the atmosphere isn't quite so relaxed.
