Where did your ancestors come from?

Last Wednesday, I had an interesting conversation with the parish priest of St. Mary's Church, Malda , an important district town in central Bengal.. In the course of our tete-a-tete the Reverend asked me, " Were your ancestors in some way related to Portuguese?" I got thinking what might have made the Reverend ask this question. Perhaps it's been promoted by my surname which is pronounced Vez by some people. You will find many people in Bengal ( more perhaps in Bangladesh) with Portuguese surnames , like D'Cruz, Rozario, etc. Many Christians in the west coast of India are found to have Portuguese surnames. ( To be continued)

I am a mixture of bloods as it happens to many people in the Americas. My greatgrandmother from my mother´s side was a Peruvian and she married an Italian immigrant. My grandmother from that side of the family married a Croatian immigrant. My greatgrandparents from my father´s side came from Spain and my grandmother married a German immigrant.

Thank you for sharing your ancestry. It's interesting to know as in the Indian society people normally marry within their ethnic cultures ( castes, languages, religions etc) .

Interesting topic you began. I am Brazilian by birth and also my parents, but my surname is Spanish, as my greatgrandparents, from my father's part, are from Mexico. My grandfather was born in United States and came to Brazil where he established himself and met my grandmother. From my grandfather on everyone was born here, but in different States of the country. From my mother's part everyone is from Brazil, I mean, everyone was native and the mixture is far behind me with Portuguese people, but I can't trace back precisely.

Same situation here in the Philippines. Most family names are Spanish sounding like Garcia, Reyes, Mendoza

I guess my main ancestry is German (Prussian). Originally they came to Australia to escape religious persecution.

I'm mostly German, a little Irish and/or Welsh/British/Scottish (the ancestors I'm thinking of were there before politics were invented); and--since I was born in Oklahoma--there's bound to be some Native American in my blood.

My family is from Europe and some of my relative came over on the Mayflower. I never believed it until I found the records for myself.

My mother's side were Irish and Scottish, my father's side were Dutch and German. But all of them had been in the US for many years. This was an interesting post!

People from my mothers side came from Germany and on my fathers side were either Welch or Irish so I’ve been told.
