Can you tell what this is? (Hint: I went to an Asian grocery the other night.)

Last night, I made a really nice dinner for myself in celebration of getting my truck back.
It involved the "star" of this photograph, but also many other ingredients, including onion, zucchini, etc. I post about that when I "develop" my photo.
This photo is one of my early "experiments" (a few days ago) with my impulse purchase. This quick soup was tasty, but didn't compare with what I had last night.

It is! But since I made this soup (which some find ugly looking--can you imagine that?) I've been experimenting with shitake mushrooms in other recipes. They are WONDERFUL fried with olive oil and soy sauce (I soaked them in water first). I had them beside my steak sandwich lunch today.

@oahuwriter I am finding that they work best when allowed to soak up something robust and flavorful.

I can see the stalk of mushroom there. It looks like a mushroom stalk to me. Not sure though. This definitely doesn't look palatable to me. But glad that it was delicious and you enjoyed it.
