I have the sweetest son ever

My son is truly the sweetest kid. When I ask my husband if I can get a quick shower he just says “I guess” so I’ve stopped asking and I say I’m jumping in the shower and hand him he baby.
He never has to go without a shower but I go like every other night without one because once the baby goes to bed I’m to tired to take one.
The other night my husband was cleaning his guns. I mention to my son I wanted to get a shower and he asked if I wanted him to watch the baby.
I thought it was so sweet of him and wish everyone in my house was as helpful and kind as he is.
He turns 15 on Tuesday. My husband goes on a yearly hunting/camping trip Monday. He could have chose any date and usually goes a different week so I’m very unhappy he and my stepson won’t be here on his birthday.
My husband said we’ll have to do cake and ice cream the Saturday after he gets back and I said no we are doing it on his birthday and they just won’t be here.
Usually we just do cake and ice cream the 6 of us but since my husband and stepson won’t be here I’m going to have my parents and sister and her kids over as well.
Photo is unrelated to the post it is just a new decoration on the wall where my daughter works.

Yes, your son is such a good and thoughtful son and brother.
He obviously sees needs and helps to pitch in and help out, I hope that he never loses sight of that during his life.
It is too bad that your hubby feels it necessary to go hunting and be away for his birthday.
I just love the decoration over the door here, so original.

@Juliaacv yes he will often ask me if I’m stressed etc. he’s such a great kid and so good with his baby sister.
It’s very upsetting my husband doesn’t care enough to stay home until after the 19th for my sons birthday. It really breaks my heart. Hopefully my parents and sister and her kids coming makes it feel less lonely.

I am glad to read that your son is so thoughtful at such a young age, and also hope he never loses sight of that when he becomes an adult.

@Chellezhere he definitely is most helpful and kind one in my house. I will be so lonely someday when he moves out. I truly dread when my kids leave. I don’t see my daughter very much since she turned 18. She stays at her boyfriends most days.

@Chellezhere wow that is a really long distance that he lives. I’m glad he calls and video chats with you since you like that. I like texts I get really nervous talking on the phone. One time my daughter called me and I was sweating buckets. Sad to be so phobic of talking on the phone that it was even that hard when my daughter called me.

@shaggin It is hard. My son (only child) left in 2017, came home a year later, left again in 2020, and has been on his own since. He lives 635 miles away. I love that he calls me and video chats instead of sending text messages. He's 27.

You are so right it was very nice of your son to watch the baby so you could take your shower. I am sorry your husband and stepson will not be there for your sons birthday.

@sallypup he always talks about how his father went away on his birthday for a hunting trip. He is now doing the exact same thing to me son. I bet he’d never do this to his own son. Sad as I wouldn’t go away on a leisure trip on his sons birthday but I’ve always been a lot more kind then my husband is.

@shaggin that is sad. Hopefully your husband will start feeling guilty and apologize and be there for your son's next birthday.

@snowy22315 he never asks me he just always does whatever he wants but I figure he may have something he needs to do I should ask. He should say yes instead of I guess as him saying I guess just makes me feel guilty.

@snowy22315 when she naps I usually mop the floors and get whatever housework done as quickly as I can. I like to shower at night before bed and by the time she goes to bed I’m just too tired. So I’ve been trying to get one at 7 which is after her bath and before everyone else starts getting theirs.
My oldest two went to bed at 7:30 so I never had this trouble. I was able to get the house cleaned up and myself showered and list things for sale on eBay.

@shaggin You have needs too. You can't just tip toe around him all the time so he doesn't go off He should be asking you if you want to take a shower..Doesn't she ever nap so you can take one then? When my son was a baby I don't remember showering being an issue

@celticeagle he misses us very much and appreciates all the things I do for him and how much I care for him while he’s away on this trip but then slowly he starts being crabby again and forgetting how he felt when he was away.

@celticeagle and good for me that he goes away if he’s going to be such a grump . But I don’t even get a day to myself so it’s not very fair really.

I can understand that you are disappointed that your husband is going hunting and won't be there for your sons birthday but I'm sure you'll have a nice little celebration anyway. He does sound like a really sweet boy and 15 can be a tough age for them. Wishing him a very happy birthday

@Marilynda1225 he’s doing so much better now then when he was young. He has made a great friend now and I think that helps too. She’s about two months older then him but in the grade above him. They met through both being in the school band.

@Judyev my stepson will do what I ask but will sigh and try to be done with things as fast as possible which isn’t always good. My daughter will ask why she has to help and ask why her brothers can’t and give me an excuse why she can’t help. So it’s just so wonderful that my son volunteers to help so much. I didn’t take him up on watching her while I showered as I didn’t want him to have to.

@kaylachan yes he will but I doubt he cares. It’s my son who will feel like crap from his stepfather not caring enough to stay home and go two days later on the trip. My husband can be very very selfish and I’ve noticed it so much this past year.

Oh, that’s sad that your husband won’t be there. And good for you for making sure the actual day is celebrated! That will mean a lot to him now. (When he gets older, probably not…heck, I don’t care about my birthdays anymore. )
