That was unusual

I had to take some paperwork and a sample from Bob into the hospital in Marion this afternoon. While there I shopped a bit in the thrift shop. Then I went home. I had forgotten my phone, so I felt a bit "odd". I turned onto the highway and got about halfway home, all the while looking at big, white, puffy clouds, that weren't clouds. I realized it was plumes of smoke. I knew it was not burning tires or rubbish or chemicals. The clouds were quite pretty. It was a grass fire. Then I noticed people blocking side roads, and just sitting on their vehicles. I came upon an emergency vehicle. I will not drag this out any more, the fire was running towards the road, they would not let vehicles pass, and I was not sure how I would get home. I could not call Bob.. I could not call anyone. I turned around and headed back to Marion. My thought was to turn and go west of the lake until I found a way through, but they were sending emergency vehicles that way as well. Eventually I got my head straight, figured out which decent road went through going south and eventually picked up a paved road going east back to the highway. I have not heard yet if anyone was hurt or if any buildings or livestock were lost. It mad my heart race to see the flames. We are under a fire watch, because weather is much too dry and too windy.

It's amazing how, probably the only time in ages that you've forgotten your phone, and you really could have done with it.

I have forgotten my phone once in the last ten years and turned around to go get it before continuing on my way. I feel weird when I don't have it. I rarely make a phone call but want the phone with me just in case I need to make a call. You can't find public phones anywhere in my area anymore. I'm glad you missed running into the fire. Even grass fires can be deadly when they're out of control. I hope nobody was hurt in that one.

I sure am glad to hear you made it home safe and sound. I too hope no one was hurt, and I know wild fires can do a lot of damage.

Those fire watches are a beach, at least here there isn't enough vegetation to keep a fire going for too long.

I am always concerned when I se fire. We had to drive on a fire that had just started to catch up years ago in the South of France, it was scary.

We only use our phones for emergencies; so I know how you felt without one! I'm glad everything turned out OK. I hope no one was injured and no homes were lost.

I also feel a bit off whenever I forget my phone. I hate to be dependent on technology, but it sure does help to have a phone for emergencies.
