x-mas is just short for christ in Greek.so we use the x for christ in Christmas.Derived from the word ???S??S, translated as Christos, which is Greek for Christ

Christmas is used for the reason for the season Christ's Birthday. X-mas is considered blasphemous to Christ. That would be like calling you x instead of your name. Hope this helps!
