“She’s Always a Woman to Me” is a song by American singer, songwriter, and musician Bill Joel wrote about his first wife to whom he was married from 1973 – 1982. At the time she began seeing Joel she was still married to his drummer, Jon Small. Joel got so upset about the whole affair he drank furniture polish in an attempt to end it all, but it was Small who rushed him to the hospital. During this crisis period Joel’s first wife, Elizabeth was also his manager. After the marriage ended Joel did not sing this song anymore but eventually in 2006, he put it back in his live repertoire.

I always liked that thing Gallagher said about Billy Joel: “Sings ‘I love you just the way you are’ and then leaves her.”
I actually I like “She’s Always a Woman” better than “Just the Way You Are.”

Drinking furniture polish sounds a bit bizarre. It wouldn't be my first choice.

I did know that Billy Joel did not sing that song after his marriage breakup in concert until 2006.
