Servicing my own Kenwood receiver. I'll be brief!

I received a 1971 Kenwood KR-5150 stereo receiver in exchange for some speaker refinishing work several years ago.
I sometimes use it to power my main stereo system. The Kenwood has a good tuner, and I can listen to my favorite FM station on it.
Recently it started cutting out on one channel or another and in general "acting strange."
I took it out of my system, did some trouble-shooting, and found that at least a part of the problem was in the balance control.
I removed the back on the unit and used my trusty De-Oxit (an electronics de-oxidizer and contact cleaner) on the back side of the balance control--working it back and forth.
Voila! The problem was solved--at least through headphones.
Today I will put the Kenwood back in my main system and see it everything is working right.
Wish me luck!

@Fleura it really is. You can see why I love restoring the surfaces (and sometimes the insides) of the old speakers I work on. The sanding is meditative, and the result is a pair of speakers that is living room ready. Plus I make an easy peasy $150 or so.

Bet you found a few pounds of cat hair in there, too.

Our last stereo system was given to the local thrift store several years ago. I don't remember how old it was but it had belonged to a friend who lived with us almost 20 years ago. When he needed money, I offered to buy the stereo and told him he could buy it back for the same amount any time he wanted it. (I paid $50 for it.) It was a very nice Aiwa stereo.

Another success. Did it work right when you added it back into the system? Good luck with that. Hope you are having a great weekend.

No worries. The receiver's trouble was identified and solved.
