Mexican Food? - Yes or No

I've had very limited experience with Mexican food. I can count on one hand the number of dishes I have tried. Our neighborhood has several Mexican restaurants; but we've never tried any of them. I know that Mexican food is very popular with people in our neighborhood and many of our MyLot members. Some examples of Mexican cuisine are: tamales, burritos, mole, tacos, quesadillas, pambazos, huaraches, flan and churros. Do you like Mexican food? What is your favorite? Photo Credit: Pixabay

REAL Mexican food yes, I like a lot. Fajitas, quesadillas, chiles rellenos, mole poblano. They have many good recipes. My favorite Mexican dessert is the Tres Leches cake.

@LindaOHio Not here in my area, may be in the bigger cities. We had a good one when we lived in Monte Carlo. We have a good Indian not far from us.

@LadyDuck We are very limited with ethnic restaurants in our area except for Mexican, Italian, Chinese and pizza. The larger cities about 40 miles away have a lot more.

You do not see many true authentic Mexican restaurants here in Canada. I am sure that I have less exposure to their food then you do.

@LindaOHio You are closer to Mexico and probably have more Spanish people living in your country, I think that is the difference.

When Pretty's mom was pregnant with Pretty, she burned me out on Mexican food. It was all she'd eat and I got sick of it. I still won't go to Mexican restaurants... I will take Pretty through the drive-thru at Taco Bell or to Taco Palace and let her get some to go but I don't want any. When Pretty makes burritos or tacos at home, once in a while I'll eat one but she makes them entirely too often. Usually I make something for myself that she might or might not be interested in eating. (Like my broccoli in chicken broth with cheese on it. Yum! Pretty hates broccoli.)

My favorite foods to order from Mexican restaurants are fajitas (usually chicken sometimes seafood) and chicken fajita taco salad. I love guacamole. Yes, I can make all of those things at home and have before. But if I do get to go to a Mexican restaurant, I order one of those.

If I ever went to a Mexican restaurant, I would want chicken, no raw onions and not too spicy! Are you in the US, Marie?

@LindaOHio Yes, I am in Illinois. The only raw onions are in the salads, all others are always cooked. I don't have a problem with it being too spicy if I stick to fajitas and taco salad fajitas. Always good.

I never was a very good cook and I did look up how to make it and find that it's just way too much work for me, I don't have that 'wanna cook' gene like my mom had.

@LindaOHio Good tamales are warm mushy corn meal dough with some kind of shredded meat inside. There is a corn husk around the outside of the mushy corn meal dough to hold it all together. Some are spicy but I ask for the not spicy.

I love Mexican food. In fact, it is second to Chinese for me when it comes to ethnic cuisine. I usually go for some kind of combination platter. Always filling and tastes good to me.
