Stopped writing my poetry book

I started writing a new poetry book called Seasonal Memories I believe last year. Unless it was the year before. And then I stopped. For some reason I can't get back into it. Don't really feel inspired.
Perhaps I should not wait for inspiration to hit but just open the MS Word manuscript file and try to write something. I can always delete it if I hate it. But this way I at least give myself a chance to write some new material for it.
I also started my second limerick book at one point, wrote a few limericks for it, and then stopped. It will never be written if I wait for ideas or inspiration to come to me. I should just open the manuscript file and try to write.

@LadyDuck yeah. I will not rush things. Especially since I will be publishing myself.

I've been having the same problem with a book I started years ago (I don't know how many years ago - not many but I've already forgotten when I started). It's hard to stay inspired sometimes. I find that a few good things just flow but then it's a real effort to write enough to be worth creating something out of it.
I do keep a lot of notepads and pens around so that I can jot down notes at any time. I've just spent an hour working on my book - partly thanks to my very supportive husband who reminded me to get on with it!
I hope you are successful, however you decided to tackle your poetry.

Thank you. Since I am not bound by any contract I am not in a rush to publish. It will happen when it happens. I just hope it won’t take forever.

I remember I sometimes used to jot things down on receipts because I didn’t have any paper with me. But I was lucky enough to have a pen so receipts were good enough.

I have been undergoing the same predicament I tried my best to get back to it, and I succeeded gradually, I added one page a day, not a lot for me because I used to write whole chapters before. But there are times like these often and I have to sail through them if I want to reach my goal.
I made it a point to write even one paragraph daily even if I force myself to. I will polish it later on when I'm in the mood.
I hope you can overcome your writer's block and get back your muse soon. It would be a waste of effort if you don't continue writing the rest. Good luck!

Definitely more important to get things on the page than worrying about how it is turning out or editing it. That comes after. Don't have to edit as you write.

Thank you. I hope I will do this and sooner rather than later. Not really sure what’s stopping me, to at least try writing new stuff.

I've never been able to force writing. I have to be inspired.

I usually never force anything. But I had times where when I opened Word I'd start writing something and I actually liked what came on the page.

Something is bothering you. When I write a poetry, I do need an inspiration for it's easy for idea to flow incessantly. But I realize later that sometimes we don't need an inspiration to write if we are freelance writer.

Sometimes inspiration comes just from opening a blank document or taking out a blank piece of paper. Not sure what was bothering me, if it was the case, but I should try to get back into writing more for the book.

Ideas won't come if you force them either. You need to find a happy common ground.

I never really force myself to write but sometimes when I open a doc or get pen and paper something ends up coming to me. So I have to try and get myself to do that. If nothing comes, nothing comes.

@lovebuglena I know what you mean. I'll open an old word doc for example, read it over, and get inspired to add to it. Or, in some cases edit it and start on the next chapter.

This is why I never fancied myself as a writer. I never seem to be able to get that spark of inspiration. I struggle just to think of stuff to post on myLot.
