A final post about my wild and crazy weekend?

I got an email from Anabella's dad on Friday evening. As some of you know, Anabella is my "independent" guitar student. Her dad got ticked off at Guitar Center for insultingly hassling him about payment, quit Guitar Center, found my contact information, and signed Anabella up with me as an independent student.
The email was about a soccer tournament Anabella was in, fairly close to my house. He invited me to the game. I decided to go. The fella picking up his speakers was late, so I didn't cycle over as planned. I put my bike in the back of my truck, parked a few blocks from the game, and cycled the rest of the way.
Anabella is GOOD! She is amazingly quick, and fast as well! Her dribbling skills leave defenders behind her. She was a joy to watch. I found myself rooting for her team more passionately (inside--I'm not a shouter) than I do for my favorite professional sports teams.
All of that was before I headed out to Betty's party.
Have you ever watched a favorite kid (especially if it's your own--Anabella is just a favored student) and found yourself taking it all more "seriously" than you expected? It could be a play, music, sports, debate, or anything else!
I'll have to ask Paul (Anabella's dad) how they did in the rest of the tournament. I forgot to mention that her team won the game I watched 3-2.

I'm assuming that that's you in the picture...if I may say so, you're really cute!!! If I were up in your area I would be taking lessons from you too!
Congratulate Anabella for me, that's great that the team won the game you watched. I couldn't handle soccer- shoot I can hardly walk and chew gum at the same time!

Hey, thanks! But Anabella takes the cuteness award. That photo is from a few months ago, when masks were still being worn by many. I chose not to wear them during lessons, but I still did at that time when I went to the store and such like.

@TheHorse Don't sell yourself short on looks, you are a cutie! And I usually don't go for guys in baseball caps, but your's adds to your cuteness. Yes, Annabella is a true cutie, but like I said, so are you!

Sounds like you've taken a shine to her. Which isn't a bad thing. She sounds like a good kid.

@TheHorse Neither of mine have been in anything significant so far. The worst was when Big One was quite little, she was in a truly awful performance of a sort of abbreviated version of 'The Sound of Music' where she mostly sat at the front picking her nose!

I did have a student who played in the under 14 State cricket team. He won a prize for batting.

Very cool! Was he a bright student as well? In the US, participating in sports is positively related to academic performance among people, in spite of the "young jock" stereotype. Of course, many of our professional athletes only went to college to play sports. Do professional cricket players tend to be as bright as their non-athletic peers?

@aninditasen It's the same here in "big time" sports.

@TheHorse No, he was an average students. In India many cricketers who gained international reputation were average students. Academic performance doesn't count here in sports.

Sounds like you had a good weekend. No kids in our lives. Sounds like Anabella is a very special little girl.

@LindaOHio I envy him...he thinks I am a good friend...imagine. That is why I say he is naive...he believes everybody is a good person...

Not me. I am a silent fan. But I took in all of the nuances of her play. I even thought up a "play" that could help her score more goals. Heh. I played soccer back in high school but wasn't that great at it. I have really good hands and two left feet.

Not with music but yes I have seen some kids who amaze me with their intellect. I don’t know if it’s my thoughts but kids from this generation are surprisingly sharp and smart. When I was in my teenage I was like a dumb kid who couldn’t wipe my nose well. And now girls at my age are fully dolled up and look so beautiful and so smart.

I did when I was teaching before. I watched my student's show, game to let him know that I supported him.
