My husband just installed a fireplace in our house. My problem is before he goes to work he never remembers to make sure the fire is still going. So I am stuck figuring out how to make a fire. Can anyone help me out? Do you have any tips on lighting a fire so it will actually burn.

Fireplace - fireplace
I was never very good at that either. I think the trick is to use very dry wood. I've got a better idea. Here is a link so a professional can tell you how. http://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/articles/start_a_wood_fire

FirePlace - fireplace all lit and cozy looking
Goodness, I feel for you. I use to have a wood burning stove and the fire always seemed to go out during the coldest part of the night. I always fought to get another one started. I was so glad when I finally got wise and purchased a kerosene heater! During my trials and tribulations on building a fire, I found having newspaper and small pieces of wood stacked up HELPED a lot. I would place the newspaper all wadded up on the bottom, then build like a tepee with the small slithers of wood, light the newspaper around the edges, when the fire starts add more newspaper, then add a log. This worked every time but it was very tedious work and I hope you get him to light that fire daily for you!
