My nephew is now breeding angora/mohair goats as well as other breeds. I put up a photo some months back but the goat didn’t have much fleece at the time. In this photo, you can see he has a bit more.
This is the buck, Clancy. Soon he will be shorn. It will be interesting to see how much they get for the fleece as it’s supposed to be bringing a good price at the moment. Mohair dates back to the 16th century.
The goats are native to the mountainous regions of Turkey although they are now bred in many parts of the world. Mohair is classified by the diameter of its fibre. Fine mohair is 19-23 microns in diameter; medium 23-28 microns and coarse 28-34 microns.
Mohair is considered to be naturally hypoallergenic and isn’t itchy when worn against the skin.

@JudyEv That's what I was thinking.
Are he and his herd more like pets?

@DaddyEvil Yes. There isn't a lot of them yet and they have a lot of interaction with their humans.

Thanks for sharing that information.
Clancy looks great and will definitely provide a lot of mohair for years to come.

Brushing his hair would be quite a job.

Nice name for a goat. And she is priceless and I mean it as she is going to yield some expensive Mohair .
We had Angora rabbits at my grandmother's place. I was not aware that we had Angora goats too

@JudyEv They must be. Angora rabbits are quite furry too but definitely not so cute like the white bunny.

He is really pretty. I love wearing mohair sweater. It's warm and comfortable. But quite expensive.
