A murder of crows

They say English is a funny language and I endorse that view. Why else would a group of crows is called a murder of crows. If you know why do share your knowledge here for the myLot community. Crows gather here when they see one of their species getting caught on the live wires. It happened this morning and I saw not less than twenty crows sobbing - what a cacophony that was. The photo that you see was clicked some time ago when a similar event happened. I feel sorry for the birds when they perch on wires and they get electrocuted when two cables touch each other

Now and then this happens here right in front of our gate. There is nothing I can do about it.

@shaggi I do not know from where these crows appear as before the accident there are none around We will die without knowing the mystery of nature.

I would also feel sad to see birds electrocuted. All our cables are underground now. Birds perch on the trees and on the street lights.

We still have wires exposed - I think the entire India has that system.

@LadyDuck Ours gets disconnected too because of the wind sometimes and then we have to call them up but load shedding affects everyone

@allknowing I have seen also photos posted by users from the Philippines and all their wire are exposed, well also the United States, as soon as the wind blows thousands of people are without electricity there.

It can be very sad for the birds to get electrocuted. I wonder haven't these creatures memorized something about these wires! And of course "Murder of Crows" sounds hilarious as well as a bit mysterious.

@allknowing Still I wonder if they don't memorize and gather Intelligence of getting the current. Plus such incidents cannot be prevented by Human intervention unless some special kind of cables come up.

Probably they perch on safe cables but when they touch each other that is when current passes through. Yes murder of crows phrase is indeed mysterious (lol)

Even elephants fall prey to electrocution. Other species are also very much like us in terms of sorrow when one of them departs.

@allknowing Yes, at times. there is a cacophony of cawing that something has gone awfully wrong. Crows like to invite others too to share the food. They have good bonding that way. Elephants are also known to stay and revisit the place where they have lost their own as a part of their moaning.
