Coming to you from an exotic location

Hi all! I have a lot of catch up posts to do, but first I thought I would tell you about the place where I'm at now. It's exotic or at least it seems that way to me. You might be wondering - am I looking out my window and seeing palm trees and beach, snow capped mountains, or perhaps am I listening to Koto playing softly in the background as I gaze out at reflecting ponds with goldfish and Japanese pagodas. Well. Turns out my window looks out at a parking lot, and beyond that a general store and a highway. The room I'm sitting in isn't a fancy hotel (or pagoda) but instead is my own apartment. It's been 3 years that I spend the majority of my time - not here but instead with my mom at her home. I love my mom dearly and decluttering from my dad takes a lot of time. However sometimes I grow... impatient at best. It is hard at times spending the majority of my time away from the most of my things. If I'm not there things have a tendency to not get done. It's ok, I don't blame my mom. She shouldn't be doing lots of lifting and such. Sometimes when I am there not much gets done - other than work, making meals, cleaning the kitchen, laundry, house chores, etc. Sometimes all those things are enough and we don't even get to the excess. Some of it I need her to sort. What stuff do you want to keep? What stuff is sell? what stuff is donate? What stuff is throw? What is my ultimate goal? I don't know. The current talk is after downsizing - moving into an actual duplex. Entirely separate dwellings, but together. We love each other and get along famously but I still enjoy things like having my OWN kitchen. my OWN entry way and entrance/exit. At 40 I've given up on a lot of things that other folks get to have, but I don't think wanting my OWN place is asking a lot. So all I know, is that work has to keep getting done and I'm turning a downsizing eye to my belongings too Wheew. So tired though. My photo: My living room

You need independence and space when you need to but that depends on the decluttering items that you and your mom can do without.

@FayeHazel I see and there are memories attached to it which your mother is reluctant to do away with.

@aninditasen Ah yes, part that, and part just difficult to find someone for all the items. He had such an array. Rare books, glassware, furniture, Hot Wheels cars, war memorabilia. At one time he wanted to start a store - but that never happened. Though he did start buying inventory

I'd rather be able to see a koi pond out my window... Where ever you're at and whatever you're doing, I hope you're enjoying yourself.

Thanks! Now I'm back at mom's. At least I will try to start doing small things each day. At least it's something. Here's a lovely picture - maybe there's Koi in there

@FayeHazel You're welcome. I expanded the photo and it does look like fishy shadows in the pool. You never know.

It's good to get things done. Doing the bare minimum here today, but it's been kind of busy so.

Oh yes. It feels so good to be productive. Sometimes the bare minimum is all we can muster though. Nothing wrong with that.

Getting a duplex once you have all the decluttering done sounds like a good plan.

Thanks, I think that is my favorite idea that we've had. More downsizing got done today. Feels great. :-)

I understand you need to have some sort of independence. I've done a lot of decluttering lately.

Ah yes. Separate spaces sounds like a good idea. Good luck with your decluttering. It's hard

Last time I was in LA, from my hotel I had an excellent view of the car park, but if you lifted your gaze you could see the LA skyline, so not all bad!

Ha ha, that reminds me of when I was in Vegas. I had a lovely view of the parking ramps lol. Oh the skyline sounds nice though in LA. How often do you get over here?

Ah thanks. Sometimes I feel like I'm crazy from it, so it's nice to know someone "gets" it. Thank you for the well wishes. Now I have a goal just to do a little bit most days. Maybe that will help. Thanks! I like my celestial theme

I miss parking lots. Since I moved out here in the middle of nowhere, I have to drive miles to see them.

Aw lol. Yes, the scenic parking lot of wonder isn't the best thing I've ever seen, but sometimes it's interesting. I actually enjoy looking out at the traffic on the highway at night. Sometimes the neighbors beyond the parking lot have a fire and I get to watch. What is out your window?
