I charged him $60. He paid me $80.

I sent that JBL single speaker home today. I charged him sixty dollars and he gave me a fifty, a twenty, and a ten. I said, You're giving me eighty dollars? He said, I appreciate what you do. @Vandana7, I live in a country where Donald Trump was president, where the crime rate is ridiculous, and where capitalist swine sell crap to people that they don't need. But I still believe that most people are basically good here. If you work hard, give "110 percent," and don't make a big show of yourself, some will appreciate it. I may celebrate by trying my Fisher amplifier (recently restored for a reasonable price by an electronics guy in semi-retirement) in my main stereo system. I don't mean to be a Pollyanna, but do you (dear reader) have stories to share of people being basically good?

@Tina30219 I enjoy conversations with others interested in the same stuff, no matter how "odd" to most.

Yep. He appreciates what I do. We also had an enjoyable conversation about old (vintage) stereo gear.

Once in a great while I remember Pollyanna without laughing. But although I agree that most people are basically good, I also think than most of the time bad people take advantage of them.

We have many good people here too. But you don't hear of them so often. One lady here rings a 98-year-old man every morning to make sure he is okay.

@JudyEv Perhaps I'll be sitting down during the conversation, my aim compromised. I guess I'd better "gather (my) rosebuds while (I) may." Someone smarter than me said that, I'm quite sure.

@TheHorse I don't about smarter. It's an all right phrase but I wouldn't have thought it was particularly smart.

@RubyHawk I went back to coffee just now. I went to Guitar Center to buy some guitar strings and batteries, and wound up chatting with a couple of dudes in the back who were playing guitars. I was trying to be a jerk, but my natural godd*mn charm showed through, and now they want lessons with me. I told them both to "f*ck" off and learn to speak English without a Spanish accent," but they wouldn't have it. The Spanish phrases I used probably gave me away. Gosh darn it.

I do have a story! I was running behind today at work and taking a little longer than usual to get the salad bar items set up. One of the things I try to do each morning is to wipe out all of the food debris from the inside of the salad bar. Even though no one sees the inside once all the containers are in place, stuff like that will rot and attract insects (plus a customer might see inside if an employee changed out containers during the day) and it's generally a good idea to keep it clean. While I was internally stressing out over the number of things I wanted to get finished before the store opened and not having enough time to get them done, I looked up and saw someone from the grocery department was cleaning the salad bar for me! Not only did he wipe out everything inside, but he sanitized the counters and cleaned the glass sneeze guards too. It made my morning so much easier, and no one had even asked him to do it. He had finished his own tasks early and took it upon himself to go around the store to see where he could help.

@TheHorse I did a little bit and thanked him profusely. On Monday, I'm going to ask one of the managers for a "High 5" to give him. It's a postcard with a $5 gift card attached to it that people within the company can sometimes give to each other to show appreciation. We can ask any of the keyholders for one, tell them who it is for and why, and they'll get it out of the safe for us.

You have been good to me. I got my little sis back in life and we cleared the misunderstanding thanks to me developing confidence after discussing the issue with you. So I became brave after knowing you... thank you. This grateful feeling will never be repeated because you have been nasty afterwards not using my slides and calling them all sorts of names...I am NOT my little sis...

@TheHorse Bottling up about an issue for so many years doesn't help. Because you are a psychologist, I decided to open up, hoping it will help. It did. I was then able to broach the topic with my little sis and she clarified so...my conscience was relieved. It helped me. Wait a second, you wanted me to express my gratefulness again? Blink...you are a nasty soul. But good souls, if they touch another in whatever way, can do good to others. So ...yeah, you helped. Now no more. Because, basically you are nasty.

It's odd to be thanked for something I hadn't realized I'd done. But I do appreciate it. As you know, being "under-appreciated" (especially by my brother) is an issue for me.

I like to tip big myself. I do have good people stories, too many to mention. Most recently a McDonald’s gave me the cup of coffee I was buying for my sister-in-law after her MRI. I don’t know if she gave it to me because I was wearing my Navy veteran cap and sweatshirt or just out of general goodness, but I thanked her, thanked God, and passed the coffee over to my sis-in-law!

Except in the case of Corporations, who are people, too, according to the Supreme Court and Mitt Romney. How many times has Guitar Center given you $20 for selling a guitar?
