Thinking about a change in book cover style for the new series

Since NaNoWriMo 2021, when I wrote the first draft of a novel tentatively titled BG AND THE PRINCESS, I have been pondering using a different style of book cover for this series. The photo above is for the second book in the series, my current NaNoWriMo 2022 project with the working title, BG AND THE ATHLETE. I showed it to my students today and they loved it. My missus thinks I should stick to the glossy photo-type covers I've used for my previous books. What do you, fellow myLotters, think of this new cover idea? Please let me know.

I don’t know, the cover spend spark my interest to look at the book and that’s just me. I know im working on my second book and having a photographer doing a cover for me for free. She wants to expand her skills so she is willing to work with me especially since what I want has nothing to do with facing just hands and the color green.

@DWDavis she isn’t mine! Just someone willing to help out under the fact she understand my family situation right now. What I want is pretty simple.

You're fortunate to have found your photographer. I've considered asking a photographer friend of mine if she'd be interested. She photographs weddings and other events but also takes seascapes and landscapes.

It is hard to say, and of course depends on the type of book and who its audience is. Of course, any book cover should "pop," since it is the first thing that catches the readers' attention, along with the title. If the cover is attractive the reader then jumps to the blurb and the rest is history. I'd have to see the former cover to decide one way or the other. By the way, adult book? Kid's book? Because that can make a difference as well as what genre the book is.

You make valid points. The BG series will be a middle grades/young adult and up.

Thank you. I'm not sold on it, yet, but it's growing on me.

This looks good but whether it's more attractive than a photo-type cover is anybody's guess. If the students like it, then that is probably a good indication for you.

My students are pretty savvy when it comes to what type of marketing catches their eye.

Haven't seen the earlier book cover, but I like this 'cartoon' type of art
