'Lifers'

Howdy, folks! I fear my sabbatical 'twas considerably longer'n I'd 'xpected. My 'pologies, I know this ol' gal 'tis missed 'lot. I hung'p my camera fer quite some time. Gone the days 'f chasin' butterflies, birds 'n other critters, sunrises 'n sets. Odd from someone who used to snap pics like my life depended'n such magical events. Bein' used to doin' so ('round 300 pics a day...e'en if'n such 'twas jest'n interestin' leaf), I figured such'd be a grand distraction. This Great Horned Owl 'twas a 'lifer' fer me. Sure, I'd witnessed such 't dawn'n dusk, perched high 'pon a tree 'r electrical pole. Ne'er'd been able to see one this close. 'd been sittin' out'n my ol' pine by the pond when I disrupted 'ts peace. Chasin' danged butterflies 's such'd caught my eye 'n beckoned me outdoors. If'n not fer 'nother bird sendin' off alarms, I'd ne'er sought 't out. I followed the sounds 'n noticed said distraught feathered friend 'twas circlin' 'round the ol' Elm tree. From a distance such 'ppeared to be a cat perched high'n a limb, jest a blackened silhouette with ears. 'd to jump 2 fences to get close 'nough to see this beauty! I asked politely, 's I do all critters (yup, I'm weird), to snap some pics 'n such jest sat there'n all 'ts glory. 'tis a wondrous thingy to see such, a blessin' to be able to snag a pic 'r 2. Several 'lifers' 've blessed me this year. Those once'n a lifetime photos that I've strived to get fer many a year. My hopes bein' that others seek out the magical gifts nature provides fer free. That others 've witnessed thingies this past year that've warmed yer hearts 'n touched yer souls.

It's a beautiful photo, whatever you had to do to get it. I "might" have noticed you'd disappeared again and "maybe" was wondering when you'd show back up. If I forgot to tell you in our earlier conversation, I'm happy to see you on myLot.

@crazyhorseladycx You're welcome. I won't tell anyone about the fence if you don't. I hope so... I start worrying about you and have trouble refraining from sending an email. Yeah, I understand. I've lost five brothers and a sister since the pandemic began... Covid is still causing problems even if the "official" word here is that it's nothing to worry about now. (My sister passed away a few days ago.)

@DaddyEvil oh, my deepest 'n most heartfelt condolences! i've yet to figure why some feel that virus 'tis no biggie, many still refuse to believe such 'xists. twisted minds who're thrilled with platforms to spew their lies 'n venom. well, ya could'a sent 'em. i'd gotten to such e'ventually. believe i'm near halfway through 2021's emails? i dunno, they jest keep stockpilin'. rude 'f me not to answer some, need to remedy that.

Absolutely amazing photo! So lucky to have gotten to see it so close. I’ve never seen an owl out in nature and I always hope someday to be able to. There are plenty around they must just hide well from me.

@crazyhorseladycx ahh woodchucks can sure do a lot of damage. It would probably have to pick it off when they are small though you think? Before winter they get enormous around here.

@shaggin these owls can take'n a full grown cat, so i reckon such'd not be to wild a task fer 'em. i aint seen the actual critters, jest their mounds left'n my yard 'n now out'n my pastures.

glad ya like 't, hon. 'twas wonderful to be able to capture such. most oft the lightin' 'tis poor - too bright 'r too dark. there'd be lots 'f owls 'round these parts, mostly barn owls. near 'mpossible to snag a photo 's they're quick's lightnin' 'n mostly spotted 't dusk 'r heard'n darkness. i'm hopin' this lovely critter bring friends'n they like gophers. i've been battlin' those lil darlin's fer the past year.

I had a nice walk today with my girls down by the American river and we watched the salmon come upstream, and the seagulls and vultures waiting for free salmon dinner. Saw a great blue heron and a white heron and lots of ducks. Nice day. Beautiful shot you got of the owl.

i'm prone to speakin' with critters, askin' their permission to get close 'nough to take their pics. thank 'em, which seems weird to many. such's awesome to see 1st hand, a gift to snag a decent pic 'r 2. not certain'n the manners part 's i 'twas makin' much noise, sneakin' closer'n dried grasses 'n leaves.

@crazyhorseladycx Vince 'talks' to birds but it's more trying to imitate their tweets and whistles but sometimes a bird will come quite close to him as though wishing to communicate in some way.
