What’s happened to my boots??

I have this really nice pair of Italian boots, and I have been trying to take care of them. They came with a little label saying to keep them dry so I was careful not to wear them on wet days or even when the ground was wet. But the other day when I got them out to wear I found them looking like this! I was horrified; it looks as if I’ve been paddling in them! I have no idea how this happened! The other question of course is, what can I do about it? Is there any way I can get rid of these stains?

They are a nice pair of boots. I would research how to get the stain out of them and then put some good leather protectant on them. Hopefully that will help.

Thanks. I've read some advice, some of it confusingly conflicting! I will have to start carefully.

Thankfully Anna has some advice. I wouldn't have any idea what to suggest. Except wet them all over so they're all stained but I realise that's not the sort of help you're looking for.

I did think about that but was afraid that would just make the problem worse!

@Fleura Which it could easily do. I don't think I'd try it.

I was wondering if the humidity from the floor could do this. As we have floor heating is not something it will happen to my shoes.

@LadyDuck I doubt it, we have a tiled floor and no sign of damp.

All the front half of the foot looks as though it has been soaked.
