I have the CBS Morning Show on and they were talking about a pizza oven in Italy that bake the pizza at 800 degrees. Wow, I had no idea pizza ovens were that hot. I figured at least 500 degrees, but not much more than that. Doesn't it seem like 800 degrees would burn the crust, and the toppings? It must not be in there very long. It would be wonderful to have a pizza oven.

The pizza oven we have downstairs bake at 800 degrees, that is the best to have a pizza with a crispy but not hard crust. The pizza only has to cook 2 to 3 minutes inside those ovens and NO it does not burn.

Yeah, I guess brevity is the key. That is hotter than the broil function of ovens.

@snowy22315 Exactly, the brevity is the key and some ingredients are placed when the pizza is "almost" ready and back inside only a few seconds.

@LadyDuck I am going to look on Amazon to see how much pizza ovens cost, but I can pretty much gurantee they are going to be out of my price range! Update, I did find a countertop model for 42.00 but I don't think it is high temp thing.

We have a few pizza places here that cook their pizzas at that temperature. The pizzas do not stay in the oven very long. I like going to those places because they make and cook your pizza right before your eyes. Very little waiting.

Yes, I am guessing the more authentic the pizzeria the higher the temp. I was at the counter the other day at Marco's, which is a chain, but it is kind of a bit more authentic than say a Dominos or something. It took about 5 minutes in the oven although actually it was a pizza bowl, no crust involved.. I was standing at the counter because I was ina bit of a hurry.

@moffittjc Yes, I have liked everything I have had from there. I have to try their white, cheezy, bacon pizza. That looks stellar.

@snowy22315 Marco's makes great pizza. One of my favorite of the chain pizza places!

From what I've seen of those pizza ovens they need to be that hot in order to get them done in a short amount of time. I'd love to have one of those outdoor ovens the Navajo use, they can bake all kinds of flat breads in them which would include pizza.

Yeah, I would too, some outdoor kitchens have that kind of thing. I would love to have an outdoor kitchen personally.

That is awful hot, but when you go in to order a pizza, they have it ready to go in a short time. They work fast.

@RubyHawk They do, and need to especially if they are busy. One time as a sideline, I worked delivering pizzas. I only did it for a few weeks. I didn't really help with the pizzas but I know it wasn't as easy as it looked. That was years ago though and I am sure it has improved some since then.

800 degree sounds right for a pizza oven.

That is on the high side, but most of them can go up to that high or higher apparently.

I'm guessing it's only in there for a few minutes at that heat level.
