The LGBTQ community has really taken a hit lately. With the shooting in Colorado(5 dead, 18 injured on the LGBTQ's day of remembrance) over the weekend in a gay bar it is an ongoing issue. Just because a person chooses to love in a different way they shouldn't be penalized. Nor should they lose their lives. Well, now children in Florida schools are having to live with this "Don't Say Gay Bill". They can't come out at school among their peers. The subject can't be talked about in school or teachers/schools could be open to lawsuits. This impacts the mental health of LGBTQ kids and such families.
Schools used to be a place of learning and finding out who we are and could be. Now it is a place where certain elements are not even given a voice. If it happens in Florida it could happen anywhere. This is a time in the lives of our children when they are learning about life. They should have the opportunity of learning about all of life, not just what others want them to know.
They have taken our right to our own bodies and now they want to take our right to love who we want to. What next?

@celticeagle MSM seriously loves to twist the facts. The bill says the schools can't 'teach' these things without informing parents. It absolutely does not say staff can 'out' kids as that article states. There's more but people should actually read these bills themselves and reread them before jumping on some fools word for what they say.
They simply want to get back to teaching subject matter like schools are supposed to. You know, like reading, writing, arithmetic, geography and leaving all that other stuff up to parents.

I hate to say this, but none of this is anything really new. And, it's not just LBGTQ either. It's just life in general. There are schools in this country that forbid hugging and holding hands, because it sends the wrong message. There also has been this silent ongoing debate between parents and schools, as who's responsible for raising the children and who's responsible for teaching core values. There's no clear guideline on how to punish, what can and can't be taught etc. And, really, should children be learning words like 'Gay' from their peers in school (when many don't know what it means) or should the discussion be guided to the parent, to teach those words and how to respect yourself and others? Aren't those values first taught at home?

I have seen this in schools. My grandson really had a problem. He is a hugger. We do that at home so he wanted to hug his friends and teachers. It was rather sad.

@kaylachan .........Such things are good to teach although they should be taught in the home. I really don't like the schools taking over things that should be done at home.

@celticeagle It kind of is. In the case of hugging, it's also a matter of teaching a child when it is, and isn't okay to hug someone.
