Why was K.I.T.T. Such a Friend to Michael Knight?

I don't think I want to watch all the content (reboots, sequels, whatever); I fell asleep watching the KNIGHT RIDER 2000-movie, so I think I'll find out 'whatever other KR-facts I need' from their FANDOM site.
But something I don't know if they have any 'facts' on (besides possibly 'interviews with the original writers') is K.I.T.T.'s friendliness. Michael Knight would frequently call him "pal," and--while he might not actually have called Michael 'pal' in return--K.I.T.T. would always 'do the friendly thing' for Michael.
I think it's an example of computer-programming's famous "Garbage In, Garbage Out (GIGO)"-principle.
That's how I think that--in a way--K.I.T.T. (or maybe its predecessor K.A.R.R.) is the ancestor of TERMINATOR's SkyNet.
Do you have any guesses on K.I.T.T.'s future adventures (or those of its descendants?)

I used to love watching Knight Rider! (I have to admit I used to fancy David Hasslehoff!)
K.I.T.T was programmed to be that way. I think K.I.T.T is fantastic!

I think people who depend on their device-use develop sort of a 'relationship' with it, especially if they're part of a team that takes care of the device (like a family takes care of its disabled members).

@mythociate The thing about K.I.T.T was he had a character all of his own and when your talking to him you can forget you are talking to an inanimate object!

@sharonelton But he developed that character from 1) the character of his creator, 2) the character of his repair-people & 3) the character of Michael Knight himself; no?
