Sister arrived earlier than expected. We had an afternoon as well as as today.
Folks really go all out with Christmas lights in this town. Sides of large front porches screened with fairy lights. Oh my. Dazzling displays that just didn't quit.
An idea poppedinto my brain: wonder if the Senior thrift store next town is open?
Yes. The store's volunteers had been busy. Sweet! The photo shows the snowman that begged to go home with me. I can put the hat on his head but then the red bird is hidden so I left it off.
Sister and I had such fun. On the way home we stopped at the burger joint that features real Oregon cheddar and real bacon on their burgers. Peppermint shake- we shared that- and a strawberry shake for hubby.
Home to find hubby walking and eating a banana. That made me over the moon happy. Hubby was delighted with the strawberry shake.
More fun: sister and I chopped up the innards for our annual fruitcake. Simple fun. Festive fun.

I love this decor. I haven't up any decorations this year. I have been so busy lately.

@sallypup Some forget, this could be our last day with one of our loved ones. A jolting thought!

I'm trying to decide whether or not to make some fruitcake this year. I made some last year and gave it to my Secret Santa recipient at work, but that person passed away last month.

@spiderdust Interesting. IF we use candied anything we do it ourselves. We did not candy orange peel this year since hubby was not feeling great. We use a Rodale recipe: all whole wheat flour, honey and molasses, dried chopped fruit and nuts. Butter not shortening. Quirky part of the fruitcake is the cup of grape jam. Very tasty. Of course eggs.

@sallypup I like the Alton Brown recipe for Free Range Fruitcake since it uses dried fruit instead of candied fruit, but I know many people prefer it made with the candied fruit.

@LindaOhio Yes every year we make fruitcake. This year sister helped cause hubby just wasn't up to it. The fruits and nuts glistening in the honey and molasses look so festive.

@sallypup Yum. Hubs always picks me up a small bar of commercial fruitcake. It's so gross!
