Brick-laying today

I’ll be away most of today. Our niece belongs to three bands and is good friends with another player, whose husband had an accident off his motor-cycle. He has been in hospital for nine weeks and will be there for many more. The husband was halfway through laying some paving bricks to the front door. So tomorrow four of us, the niece, her father (Vince’s younger brother), Vin and I will make a start on finishing off the path. We expect it to take at least several days. The two women both work so Vince, his brother and I will probably finish it during the week but not Wednesday when the temperature is supposed to get to 38C, much too hot to be slaving away outside. The photo is me cutting bricks at a previous task. That’s my job when we’re laying bricks. And if I remember I'll take a 'before' photo when we get there.

You are like my sister. She loves to work. I wonder what she will do when she finally retires.

@TheHorse It's a good word, isn't it? I've found another 'project' but I might need to go about it the right way if I want to get Vince onside. lol

Probably work some more. I'm always pleased when the brother rings up to see if we want to help with a project.

You are a master worker, Judy. Just remember to use a lot of sun block and wait until sun down if possible. Today we had 34° C and I was not interested much in going outside.

You both are such industrious and giving souls. I love you for that. And I love this photo of you. The poor guy in the hospital I pray for his return to health. What a terrible thing to happen.

He works for himself so, at the moment, there is no money coming in. It's very sad.

This isn't a great deal to it once you've been shown how. At least it is something I can do as I'm no good on a shovel any more.

What an act of love, finishing the bricking job for this lady and her injured husband! It's a shame when these critical accidents happen. Yet, we never know when terrible things might occur. So you are a brick cutter, Judy:) It's wonderful you're skilled at doing this:)

Once you're shown how to do it, it isn't very difficult. The cutter does all the work for you. You do get quite wet as there is water running all the time to keep the dust down.

I have never done bricklaying and would rather give it a pass. Good that you are able to chip in to complete the work. Motorcycle accidents can be quite nasty as one bears the brunt of the impact. I do hope he recovers well.

It's not so hard once you've been shown. Probably the main thing is not to be scared of it. And to be careful.

@JudyEv Wow that makes sense though. When you're scared of something you don't act out of confidence which is probably what you need to do to run something like that.

Water runs onto the blade so there is no dust. You can see the water collecting in the tray. Yes, it is very noisy and you need ear protection.
