Eeyore Blankets Quilts And More

As a collector of the Disney character Eeyore, I have many blankets as well as figurines. After my sister passed a few years ago, her husband graciously offered her quilts to me. I treasure them very much. The wooden quilt stand in the photo actually belonged to June Carter Cash. Her husband worked for Johnny Cash a few years and they grew close. She passed one of her mom's quilts down to my sister, along with the stand. I can imagine how old it must be. Her quilt was kept by my sister's daughter of course. I also have some quilts my Grandmother made. Those are very special too. Memories. Little things to get us through the days. And then there is Eeyore. He always makes me smile. From coffee mugs to figurines, I have Eeyore here and there in my home. Each one is treasured. Today has been a long cloudy day. A few sprinkles of rain here and there. Almost over now. No sunset to share. All clouds. Maybe tomorrow will bring more beauty form the deck. Even the birds have been quiet today. All in all it has been very peaceful. Nothing can replace peace of mind. I enjoy this time of year when the cold arrives. I keep a quilt folded at the bottom of the bed. Photo is mine. The bedroom is painted "Oh Bother Blue", which is for Eeyore of course. His words are the name of the paint color.

@CarolDM I can imagine how well you feel in that blue room. Johnny Cash had a wonderful voice and he looked like a sweet intelligent man.

Thanks Anna. I have lots of good memories to share. And my Eeyore bedroom is a favorite place to visit. Lots of Dustin’s things are in there as well. Johnny Cash was a wonderful man to sit and talk with.

@LadyDuck The room sort of embraces me, probably sounds funny, but it does. Johnny had some rough years, spent time in prison, but he got through that and was such a strong man. Would love to have more conversations with him.

@CarolDM I actually noticed that colour right away, and I had a feeling that it was not by accident.

I didn't start out with the intention of explaining it all but I just kept writing. It is a good story. Thank you, I have more that are such treasures. I forgot to mention the bedroom is painted "Oh Bother Blue", which is for Eeyore of course. His words are the name of the paint color.

Wow that quilt stand is very special for sure. And your sisters quilts on them makes it even more so. I am so glad your brother in law let you have them. He must have known how much you would appreciate them.

@CarolDM oh my gosh that is so sad. I can’t even imagine the pain she must have been in. A blood clot would make sense.

Yes indeed it is. These are just part of what I mean when I say I couldn't make it without my memories. He knew how close we were and gave me several things of hers. So special.

@shaggin Lost my brother as well as my father. No other siblings. My sister passed on Christmas Day from what they think was a blood clot to her brain. She was in a horrific car accident where another car hit a deer and it came through her windshield into her face. Broke every bone in her face. Was in the bed for months recovering from multiple surgeries. That is why they said probably a blood clot. Thanks for asking.

I didn't know about quilt stands. Is that really what they're for? Were quilts put on them when a person went to bed? Just wondering.

@CarolDM Thanks for the explanation. We pull our eiderdown back but leave it folded at the bottom of the bed. It's surprising how often you need to pull it up sometime during the night.

Yes, quilts have been popular for many years as well as the stands. Some are much larger than this one. And made of ceramic, brass and other products. Wooden stands were more popular as they could be made easily. In the winter many would add a quilt, as you would a comforter, to your bed. I can remember at my Grandmother's house sometimes having two quilts. Her bedrooms were not heated. Only a wood stove in the living room. The bedroom doors were kept shut to keep the heat in the other rooms. Often times you would keep one folded at the bottom of your bed, in case you need it during the night. That is what I do now in the winter.

@CarolDM I like quilts too but I have only the ones I’ve made. I’ve made quilts for my children and grandchildren. I think I’ve made my last quilt though.

It is Eeyore blue. No, she didn't make any quilts. The top one is mine, an Eeyore blanket. The other two on the bottom were made by her mother-in-law. She had these in her home for many years, draped over her staircase. I remember them well.

Wow what a treasure you have getting that quilt stand that belonged to June Carter Cash. Interesting that your family has connections to Johnny Cash, etc. I love your Eyeore blue bedroom and the blanket is so cute sitting on top of that beautiful quilt. I've been having a lot of memories lately too

I have many of Dustin's things on the other side. For another day. This time of the year is rough. And I spend a lot of time in this room.

Eeyore is as much a part of your life, as those wonderful quilts you treasure. We had a long, cloudy day in Michigan. The breeze is cold, so I stayed indoors most of the time.
