Awful good, that is. All of these people here on myLot talking about their yummy cooking made me want to start making stuff for myself again. (Well, that and the price of packaged food going through the roof. ) So, as I mentioned, I bought a crockpot. Yesterday I made potato soup that’s about as simple as you can get: potatoes and chicken broth. This evening I’m having some with dinner. I seasoned it with some of that wonderful Trader Joe’s Soffritto seasoning that @TheSojourner turned me on to (don’t think she gets a commission for sales of it, but she should, ‘cause that stuff is superb!) and it’s warming my insides on this cold evening. If you’re wondering about the price, gee, I don’t know. The potatoes were $3.99 for a five-pound bag, and I used three. The chicken broth was store brand, $1.49. I got two huge servings or five small servings out of the batch I made. Next up: improving on the basics. I’ll check out some low-fat cheese at the grocery or some bay leaves for seasoning. Thanks to the myLot cooking department for getting me interested again!!!! Here’s Nancy Walker singing “I Can Cook Too” from On the Town to celebrate!

Three potatoes. They were going to end up puréed so I cut ‘em up small.

@TheSojourner — compared to one can of potato soup, $2.75, with who-knows-what ingredients and fat and everything. Thanks for the cost breakdown. Can you do my taxes for me, too?

Smartypants! I'm glad you're enjoying your potato soup. I woke up at 4 pm and made a large pan of scrambled eggs with the last of the smoked turkey chopped up in it and some onions diced in, as well. YUM!

It’s a little “plain,” because there’s only the seasoning at the end, but it’s very filling.

I am surprised that a lot of the actors I knew only as actors (her and Rose Marie are two good examples) had singing careers “way back when.”

I love tomatoes. They’d be a good side dish. Or main dish.

@FourWalls I am not much into soups and the only soup I really like is the sweet corn and crab or chicken soup made the Chinese way

There were, yes. I puréed a lot of the potatoes to give it a thicker consistency. Vichyssoise is probably the best-known potato soup recipe.

@FourWalls Indeed, one of my brothers best dishes with bacon pieces, but do not tell him I said that or it will go to his head. Funny thing he is a lot better than he used to be but his of course its good, I made it stuff drives me absolutely insane. I really cannot stand people with big ego's.

You bet! Now all I need is a good tomato soup recipe. (Kidding, the crockpot is white and I’d like to use it a while before it gets the red hue to it from cooking tomato stuff.)

@FourWalls Some food stain. I have a beautiful "Le Creuset" enameled cast-iron pot, red outside and (IT WAS) white inside. I had the bad idea to prepare a chili con carne in it. It is no more white.

@FourWalls That can be very true. If we go out it is usually to the local bar. And lately the food hasnt been as good as it used to be. Depends on who is cooking.

@FourWalls Bay leaves for seasoning are delicious and healthy. And, I put a few sheets in the sugar jar to keep the ants away. Keep the spirit to keep trying

I’ve used the instant broth or bullion cubes before, but they’re about 723% salt. The chicken broth I used was low fat and low sodium.
